Original job description
PhD student in Bioinformatics
Cardiac genetics and epigenetics Lab
Montreal Heart Institute, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal
The Cardiac Regulatory Genomics Lab at the Montreal Heart Institute is recruiting a PhD student in bioinformatics. We investigate how noncoding DNA, long noncoding RNAs and three-dimensional chromatin architecture regulate cardiovascular development, function and disease.
Research opportunityThe fellow will integrate computational genomics with experimental studies to identify and characterize cardiac regulatory mechanisms. Research directions include enhancer–gene interactions, noncoding RNA function and the functional interpretation of genetic variants associated with cardiovascular disease, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Key responsibilities· Analyze and integrate transcriptomic, epigenomic and chromatin interaction datasets, including single-cell or single-nucleus data.
· Develop reproducible analysis workflows and prioritize candidate regulatory elements, RNAs and disease-associated variants for experimental validation.
· Work closely with experimental researchers, contribute to manuscripts and grant proposals, and support trainee development.
Candidate profile· MSc completed or nearing completion in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics or a related discipline.
· Strong programming skills in R and/or Python, experience with Linux and statistical analysis, and demonstrated ability to analyze high-throughput sequencing data.
· Experience in regulatory genomics, multiomics integration or single-cell analysis is an asset; interest in cardiovascular biology and collaborative research is essential.
How to applyPlease email a CV, a short cover letter describing your research interests and relevant computational experience, and the names and contact details of two referees. Include “PhD student Bioinformatics Application” in the subject line.
