Duties:
- Provides direct leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management to assigned team members, including establishing work priorities, service standards, performance expectations, and professional-development plans.
- Oversees the allocation, monitoring, and quality assurance of team caseloads involving disability management, workplace accommodation, return-to-work, occupational health and safety, and related matters.
- Provides expert consultation and direction to team members on complex, high-risk, sensitive, or precedent-setting employee matters, ensuring consistent and defensible advice and decision-making.
- Leads the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of disability management, accommodation, return-to-work, and occupational health and safety policies, procedures, tools, and resources.
- Provides oversight and guidance for the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of confidential employee medical and personal information, in accordance with applicable privacy legislation, organizational policy, and need-to-know principles.
- Works with supervisors, senior leaders, employees, unions, and appropriate health-care or rehabilitation providers to resolve barriers to return to work and sustainable attendance.
- Ensures legislative compliance, while overseeing disability management and occupational health and safety programming.
- Supports the development and maintenance of effective hazard-identification, risk-assessment, workplace-inspection, incident-reporting, injury-prevention, and corrective-action processes.
- Provides leadership and support to the Occupational Health Committee, the CUPE Sick Bank Committee and the SPS Sick Bank Committee ensuring follow-up actions are appropriately documented and addressed.
- Analyzes health, safety and absence data to target risks and drive program improvements.
- Coordinates or provides oversight for investigations involving workplace injuries, safety incidents, health and safety complaints, and other assigned matters.
- Advises supervisors on their responsibilities related to occupational health and safety, disability management, accommodation, and early and safe return-to-work practices.
- Maintains constructive relationships with Saskatoon Police Service employees, union representatives, external service providers, regulatory authorities, and relevant compensation or insurance organizations to support effective case resolution.
- Prepares and presents reports, briefing notes, program metrics, recommendations, and other materials for senior leadership.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Commerce or Business Administration, specializing in Human Resources.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
- Six to eight years’ related experience, including substantial responsibility for disability management, workplace accommodations, return-to-work coordination, and occupational health and safety.
- Experience in a unionized, public-sector, emergency-service, or complex operational environment is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of provincial legislation related to occupational health and safety, worker’s compensation, human rights, and disability management principles.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including coaching, developing, motivating, and holding staff accountable.
- Strong judgement and ability to manage complex, sensitive, confidential, and high-risk employee matters.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, consultation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and concise reports, recommendations, and briefing notes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, senior leaders, union representatives, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Human Resources information systems.
- Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.
Salary:
$113,871.36 to $133,798.56 per annum (2026 rates)
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., in-office
