Job Summary

The position serves as a key relationship bridge between SaskPower and the Cumberland House community, supporting a collaborative approach to planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of mitigation and accommodation programs. Working closely with Indigenous Rightsholders, communities, local stakeholders, and internal teams, the Specialist helps ensure initiatives are informed by community knowledge and priorities while also aligning with regulatory requirements and SaskPower’s corporate objectives.

SaskPower is committed to supporting the successful candidate in developing the skills and experience needed for these responsibilities over time. While they may not take on all aspects of the role immediately, we are comfortable with a gradual transition as they build capacity.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and administer environmental offset, mitigation, monitoring, and accommodation programs on behalf of SaskPower, applying a collaborative and partnership‑based approach.
  • Build and maintain respectful, trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, Rightsholders, regulators, consultants, and internal stakeholders, serving as a key point of contact between SaskPower and the Cumberland House region.
  • Support the development, implementation, and reporting of long‑term environmental monitoring and adaptive management programs that bring together western science and Indigenous knowledge.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and efficiencies related to environmental strategies, and provide informed recommendations that reflect community context, regulatory requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Participate in and support cross‑functional teams and committees to advance strategic environmental initiatives and regulatory discussions.
  • Prepare clear reports, briefings, and presentations for SaskPower leadership, regulators and external audiences, reflecting both technical findings and community perspectives.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging environmental legislation, policy, science, and best practices, and assess implications for SaskPower programs and relationships.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams and contractors as required, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  • Understand and execute environmental regulatory requirements, commitments, and license conditions, supporting the co‑development and implementation of practical, compliant solutions.
  • Support fisheries, aquatic habitat, wetland restoration, and environmental monitoring initiatives, including scope development, contractor oversight, and budget management, in collaboration with internal leads and community and technical partners.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of social, cultural, and governance networks within the Cumberland House region, including the historical context, inter‑community relationships, and overlapping interests of Indigenous communities, organizations, and local stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive and complex social dynamics, build trust, and maintain productive working relationships within closely connected communities, while balancing regulatory, operational, and corporate objectives.
  • Experience applying a thoughtful, culturally informed approach to engagement in environments where social networks, leadership structures, and community perspectives are interconnected and evolving.

  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s competencies.

Assets
