Saturn has an opportunity for a full-time Information Services (IS) Data Analyst based in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Team Lead, Business Applications & Data Analytics, the Data Analyst is responsible for transforming enterprise data into meaningful insights that support operational efficiency, strategic decision-making, and business performance. This role will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to develop reporting solutions, maintain data quality, and support the ongoing growth of Saturn's analytics and data platform capabilities.
Some specific duties, and responsibilities of the Data Analyst include, but are not limited to:
Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI and other reporting tools.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and deliver actionable insights.
- Design and support self-service analytics solutions that enable business users to access trusted data.
- Analyze business performance trends and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Create and maintain reporting documentation, data dictionaries, and metric definitions.
Data Analysis & Insights
- Collect, validate, and analyze data from multiple enterprise systems.
- Perform ad hoc analysis to support operational, financial, land, production, and corporate initiatives.
- Identify data trends, anomalies, and opportunities to improve business outcomes.
- Support forecasting, planning, and performance measurement activities through analytical reporting.
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Data Quality & Governance
- Monitor data quality and identify inconsistencies across business systems.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining data governance standards and best practices.
- Participate in data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes.
- Collaborate with business teams to improve data accuracy and consistency at the source.
- Support data stewardship initiatives and governance processes.
Data Platform & Integration Support
- Work with internal and external partners to support data integrations and reporting environments.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of data models, semantic layers, and curated datasets.
- Support testing and validation activities related to data pipelines and reporting solutions.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Saturn's analytics platform and reporting architecture.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with business units to understand operational priorities and reporting needs.
- Facilitate discussions on reporting requirements, KPI definitions, and data-related challenges.
- Provide training and support to end users on reporting tools and analytics solutions.
- Promote data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Analytics, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- 3-7 years of experience in a data analyst, business intelligence, reporting, or analytics role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into business insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry.
- Familiarity with Qbyte FM, CS Land, Metrix, OpenInvoice, Execute, and WellView.
- Understanding of production, finance, land, or operations reporting.
Technical Skills Required
- Experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling concepts.
- Experience performing data validation, reconciliation, and quality analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Python for data analysis and automation.
- Familiarity with Databricks, Azure Data Services, or cloud-based analytics platforms.
- Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data integration concepts.
- Experience working with large or complex datasets.
- Exposure to data governance and master data management practices.
