About Scale-Up Electrochemical Inc.
Scale-Up Electrochemical Inc. is a Calgary-based materials science and technical advisory company. We develop composite polymer electrolyte technology for solid-state batteries and deliver advisory services to clean-tech and industrial clients. Our work sits at the intersection of advanced energy storage, electrochemical process support and climate-aligned materials innovation including early pathways that use sequestered CO₂.
The Role
We are hiring a Technical Operations and R&D Intern to support delivery on active client contracts and internal materials R&D. You will work under the Founder & Technical Director on laboratory operations, experimental support, documentation and early product-development tasks. This is a hands-on STEM placement in the electricity and natural-resources innovation space, with a clear climate and critical-minerals (battery materials) connection.
Key Responsibilities
· Support day-to-day laboratory and technical operations for active client engagements.
· Assist with sample preparation, experimental setup, monitoring and basic data recording.
· Help maintain lab organization, inventory, safety discipline and equipment readiness.
· Support R&D on polymer electrolyte materials and solid-state cell-related testing under supervision.
· Contribute to early development work on carbon-utilizing / biodegradable materials pathways.
· Document procedures, results and technical notes to a professional standard.
· Participate in team check-ins, learning activities and continuous improvement of lab practice.
What We Are Looking For
Required
· Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program (e.g. chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, environmental science, or related STEM field).
· Willingness to work in a laboratory and client-site environment with attention to safety.
· Strong organization, communication and documentation skills.
· Reliability, curiosity and ability to follow experimental protocols carefully.
Asset
· Coursework or lab experience in electrochemistry, polymers, materials characterization or process chemistry.
· Prior lab, co-op, or research experience.
· Comfort with spreadsheets, basic data handling and technical writing
· Interest in clean energy, battery materials or climate-tech.
What We Offer
· Exposure to industrial client work and applied materials R&D.
· Structured onboarding and regular feedback (wrap-around supervision and professional development).
· Experience in STEM, climate-related and critical-minerals (battery materials) work in Alberta.
· Opportunity to contribute to both commercial delivery and early-stage innovation.
