Original job description

About Schema App

Schema App is a fast-growing, profitable SaaS company headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, with a team across Canada. We’re a smart, collaborative group driven by a shared mission: to become a global leader in enterprise marketing technology and help organizations future-proof for the age of AI.

We work with some of the world’s most recognized enterprises, including SAP, Wells Fargo, and Henry Ford Health, to give them control over how their brand is understood and represented by AI across search and digital experiences.

At our core, we believe that in the age of AI, a brand is only as strong as the data behind it and the connections within it. As search evolves into AI-driven and agent-led experiences, that foundation becomes critical. That’s why we’re building the infrastructure enterprises need to control how they show up in AI today and compete in the agentic web tomorrow: driving growth, protecting their brand, and leading in the next generation of digital experiences.

About the Role

The Finance Business Partner will play a key role in building the next stage of Schema App’s Finance function. This role will support the Director of Finance with financial planning & analytics, reporting, accounting, and business partnering while helping us build the processes and tools we need to scale.

A key focus will be developing and maintaining a 36-month financial plan and strengthening our forecasting and reporting capabilities. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable in an evolving environment, enjoys building and improving financial processes and systems, and can identify opportunities for greater efficiency, automation, and better decision-making.

Functional Accountabilities

Build and Develop FP&A Processes

Build, maintain, and continuously improve the company's 36-month financial plan, including revenue, expenses, headcount, cash flow, and key operating assumptions.
Establish and continuously improve core FP&A processes, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis.
Partner with functional leaders to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial plans aligned with company objectives.
Track key SaaS and operational metrics, translating business performance into actionable financial insights.

Reporting & Business Partnering

Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and performance reporting for leadership and operational teams.
Deliver timely, accurate, and actionable financial insights, including variance analysis and clear links between operational drivers and financial results.
Partner with cross-functional leaders to improve financial understanding, reporting quality, and business decision-making.

Accounting & Controller Support

Support the Controller with month-end close activities, including journal entries, supporting schedules, and financial analysis.
Manage monthly commission calculations, validation, and tracking while partnering with Sales, Customer Success, and Accounting to improve related processes.

Systems, Automation & Process Development

Design and improve scalable finance processes that reduce manual work, strengthen controls, and improve data quality.
Identify and implement automation and AI solutions across FP&A and accounting processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and reporting.
Develop process documentation and support the implementation and optimization of finance systems and tools.

Key Competencies

Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders and leadership.

Financial acumen: Strong business acumen and an ability to connect financial results with underlying business drivers.

Financial Planning & Modelling: Builds accurate financial models and long-range forecasts that connect business drivers to financial outcomes and support strategic decision-making.

Execution & Agility: Thrives in a fast-paced environment by independently managing multiple priorities and adapting to change.

Ownership & Accountability: Takes ownership of outcomes, follows through on commitments, proactively solves problems, and delivers high-quality work with minimal oversight.

Continuous Learning & Efficiency Habits: Contributes to Schema App’s culture of constant innovation and experimentation by showing curiosity, initiative, and ownership in finding smarter, more efficient ways to deliver results. Embraces change, leverages AI and automation tools where appropriate, and continuously improves workflows to increase productivity and efficiency.

Success Metrics

Forecast Accuracy: No surprises within a 90-day window
Long-Term Forecast: 36-month forecast maintained with no missed monthly updates.
Business Insights: Monthly financial reports delivered on time with clear explanations of key variances and recommended actions.
Operational Efficiency: Deliver at least one quarterly automation or AI enhancement that measurably improves efficiency, accuracy, or cycle time.

Core Values

Growth Mindset: Embraces change, seeks feedback, and continuously builds their financial, business, and technical knowledge to improve how Finance supports the organization.
Resourceful: Proactively solves problems, navigates ambiguity, and finds smarter ways to deliver results using data, technology, AI, and automation.
One Team: Collaborates across the organization, openly shares financial knowledge and insights, and works toward the best outcome for the company.
We are Humble: Approaches financial analysis with curiosity, challenges assumptions respectfully, shares expertise openly, and seeks clarity when the answer isn’t known.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a SaaS or technology organization.
Experience supporting financial planning, forecasting, and long-range planning.
Experience building or improving FP&A processes in a growing organization.
Experience developing financial models and multi-year financial plans.
Experience with Rillet, Fathom, Dext, and Google Workspace.
Experience using AI tools, agents, or automation workflows to design, improve, or scale finance processes is an asset.
CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is an asset.

AI-based tools may be used to support screening; all resumes are reviewed by a member of our team.
