Original job description
Some of the most important technical decisions are made before a project ever reaches Engineering or Manufacturing.
When a customer requests a low-voltage switchgear or switchboard configuration that is not available through our standard product selection tools, our Sales and Quotations teams need to understand what is technically possible before making a commitment. This is where your expertise will make a difference.
In this role, you will support complex Canadian customer opportunities involving switchboard and PZ4 low-voltage drawout applications. You will investigate non-standard requests, evaluate how the equipment could be configured, and determine the cost and lead time required to deliver the solution. When the exact request cannot be supported, you will use your product knowledge to recommend a practical alternative.
Working closely with Sales, Quotations, Engineering, Manufacturing, and external vendors, you will help turn complex customer requirements into technically feasible and executable proposals. Your work will strengthen the quality of our quotations and help ensure that the solutions proposed during the quotation stage can be successfully delivered once the project moves into execution.
This is an opportunity to apply your hands-on product and engineering knowledge in a broader, highly collaborative role. Initially focused on Canadian opportunities, you will also help strengthen the team’s understanding of Canadian products and requirements. As the role evolves, you may gradually take on broader quotation support responsibilities across the North American organization.
What you'll be doing
Provide technical application support to Canadian Sales and Quotations teams for non-standard requests involving low-voltage switchboards and PZ4 low-voltage drawout equipment.
Review customer specifications, one-line diagrams, drawings, bills of material, and other technical information to understand the requested configuration and identify any additional information required.
Assess whether customer requirements can be supported within the product’s technical, dimensional, manufacturing, and standards-related constraints.
Investigate possible configurations and modifications by drawing on your product knowledge and collaborating with plant engineering, manufacturing, external vendors, and other technical resources.
Define the technical approach and coordinate the cost and lead-time inputs associated with non-standard requests, providing clear and complete responses to the Sales and Quotations teams.
Recommend practical alternatives when the requested configuration cannot be delivered as specified, clearly explaining any required modifications, limitations, or conditions.
Document technical assumptions, clarifications, and proposed solutions to support accurate quotations and provide context as the project moves into execution.
Manage multiple technical requests within established timelines, prioritizing cases according to their complexity, urgency, and customer requirements.
Provide technical clarification after order conversion when Project Engineering requires additional context regarding a solution defined during the quotation stage.
Continue building your knowledge across Canadian switchboard and PZ4 applications and, over time, contribute to broader North American quotation support and knowledge sharing.
What you bring
A bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering, another relevant technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
A hands-on background in the design or application of low-voltage switchboards or drawout switchgear, combined with a solid understanding of how these products are configured and manufactured.
Sound judgment when assessing the impact of non-standard modifications on dimensions, internal components, manufacturability, and overall feasibility.
Confidence interpreting customer specifications, one-line diagrams, drawings, bills of material, and related documentation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the curiosity to investigate unfamiliar requests and develop practical solutions.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain requirements, limitations, and alternatives to a range of stakeholders.
A collaborative approach and the capacity to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
You might also have
Familiarity with both low-voltage switchboards and PZ4 or comparable low-voltage drawout products.
An understanding of Canadian product requirements, CSA standards, and the differences between Canadian and US configurations.
Exposure to engineered-to-order products, custom configurations, or quotation support.
Working knowledge of control schemes, PLCs, relays, ground fault protection, or communication systems.
Familiarity with cost and lead-time inputs, estimating tools, labour standards, or manufacturing cost data.
Previous involvement in product-related discussions with customers, consultants, Sales, or Quotations teams.
We recognize that skills and competencies can be developed through a variety of experiences, both professional and personal. Even if you don’t meet every single requirement listed, we still encourage you to apply. Your unique background and perspective could be exactly what we’re looking for.
