Original job description

Requisition ID: 277796

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Scotiabank continues to be an industry leader for Payment’s technology and innovation. We have a history of safely leveraging new tools to enable new experiences for our customers, focusing on ensuring we protect their interests and goals. The result of this leads to modernization programs which aim to offer enriched information and transparencies to support the rapidly evolving payments community.

The Role

The Engineering Lead is responsible for elevating the organization’s delivery capability by fostering a culture of agility, continuous improvement, and human centered collaboration. This role partners with engineering teams, product leaders, and engineering leads to guide the adoption and maturity of the Agile mindset. This role serves as a mentor, facilitator, and change agent, helping teams improve ways of working, strengthen product engagement, and achieve measurable outcomes that align with strategic business value. This role will contribute to the overall success of the Core Banking Engineering teams to elevate our team’s growth potential and execute on top organizational priorities.

What You’ll Do:

Mentorship & Mindset

Leverage previous experiences in adapting core principles to real-world application – using this to upskill our leads and team members.
Mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and new Agile practitioners to build the right mindset.
Help leaders understand their role in supporting Agile teams and shifting traditional command and control behaviors.
Act as a trusted advisor on Agile practices, product strategy alignment, and organizational impediments.
Promote a culture of accountability within the team.

Continuous Improvement & Metrics

Introduce, measure, and refine Agile metrics using delivery data such as cycle time, throughput, and trends to evaluate team health and customer value delivery.
Use qualitative and quantitative insights to guide improvement experiments and support evidence based planning - improving delivery practices, and adopting data driven decision making.

Coaching & Transformation

Maintain awareness of industry best practices and incorporate modern coaching techniques and tools.
Support the design and rollout of delivery strategies across departments or portfolios.
Coach teams on Agile values, principles, and mindset to improve flow, predictability, and quality.
Observe, evaluate, and lead-by-example on Agile ceremonies (e.g., retrospectives, sprint planning, standups) while enabling teams to self facilitate.
Partner with leaders to build an environment where autonomy, trust, psychological safety, and continuous learning can thrive.
Promote cross functional collaboration to improve end-to-end delivery flow.

Organizational Expectations

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

What You'll Bring:

Education & Certifications

Post-secondary education and/or experience in relevant positions or field of employment
Relevant certifications are an asset, for example:
- ICAgile Agile Coaching (ICP‑ACC or ICP‑ATF)
- Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) or Certified Agile Coach (CEC/CTC)
- SAFe, Kanban, or Lean certifications

Professional Experience

Working experience in Agile environments across engineering or product domains.
Successful engagements in previous roles as Agile Coach, Scrum Master, or Delivery Lead coaching multiple teams.
Proven experience driving organizational level transformations or modernization efforts.

Skills & Competencies

Deep knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP, Lean) and scaling approaches (SAFe, LeSS, or similar).
Strong facilitation, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to coach at all levels - from hands on delivery teams to senior leadership.
Demonstrated success improving team health, delivery flow, and customer centric practices.
Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
A passion for continuous learning, psychological safety, and fostering inclusive team culture.

What's in it for you?

You’ll join a team focused on building cloud platforms as products, enabling delivery teams across the enterprise rather than acting as a centralized gatekeeper or operating within a narrow delivery focus. This role offers exposure to a wide range of technologies, problem domains, and stakeholders.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Allyship - We strive to create an inclusive culture where every employee is empowered to reach their fullest potential, respected for who they are, and are embraced through bias-free practices and inclusive values across Scotiabank. We embrace diversity and provide opportunities for all employee to learn, grow & participate through our various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that span across diverse gender identities, ethnicity, race, age, ability & veterans.

Scotiabank continues to locate, remove, and prevent barriers so that we can build a diverse and inclusive environment while meeting accessibility requirements.
Upskilling through online courses, cross-functional development opportunities, and tuition assistance.
Competitive Rewards program including bonus, flexible vacation, personal, sick days, and benefits will start on day one.
Community Engagement - no matter where you choose to work from; we offer opportunities for community engagement & belonging with our various programs.
