The Role

The Senior Manager – Data Product Manager leads the strategy, lifecycle and value realization of data products and shared data capabilities for International Banking. Reporting to the Director, Data Engineering, the incumbent acts as the senior product authority for the portfolio in scope: defining product vision and outcomes, owning roadmaps and prioritized backlogs, setting measurable success criteria, and aligning business, engineering, architecture, governance, risk and country stakeholders around a common direction. The role translates strategic priorities and customer needs into governed, reusable, domain-aligned data products published on Harbour, the bank's Azure Databricks data platform, following the Harbour target architecture and its producer/consumer model ("engineer once, consume many"). This includes the migration and rationalization of legacy on-premises and Google Cloud Platform workloads onto Harbour. The incumbent also leads a small team of Data Product Managers/Product Owners, establishing product management standards and coaching, developing and directing their work across concurrent initiatives and markets.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

Define and own the product vision, strategy and outcome-based roadmap for the data products and shared data capabilities in scope (e.g., curated Gold-layer domain data products, analytics-ready datasets and reusable data services), organized by business domain (BIAN-inspired) and aligned with International Banking strategic priorities and the Harbour target architecture.

Own and prioritize the product backlogs for the portfolio in scope, balancing business value, regulatory commitments, technical debt and platform capacity; make clear trade-off decisions and communicate the rationale to stakeholders.

Engage business, Analytics, Risk, Finance, Data Office and country stakeholders to understand data consumer needs, use cases and pain points, and translate them into product requirements, epics, user stories and acceptance criteria.

Define measurable success criteria and KPIs for each data product (adoption, consumer satisfaction, data quality, timeliness/SLA, reuse and cost-to-serve) and track value realization after release.

Partner with Senior Data Engineers, Architecture and the Harbour Platform team (Data & AI Technology) to shape data products that follow approved Harbour patterns. These patterns include standard ingestion (metadata-driven batch through Azure Data Factory into ADLS Gen2 and, where applicable, change data capture), data contracts, medallion layering (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and a clear producer/consumer separation, so data is engineered once and reused across consumers rather than rebuilt for each use case.

Lead product-level planning for the migration and rationalization of legacy workloads (on-premises platforms such as DB2, SQL Server, Hadoop and SAS, and existing Google Cloud Platform estates) onto Harbour. This includes source inventory, value and risk classification, prioritization of operational (mirrored) sources as the preferred source of truth, historical load strategy, decommissioning of temporary legacy analytical assets, consumer transition, and sequencing aligned with country workspace onboarding.

Embed governance by design into every data product, in partnership with the Data Office, Risk and Compliance: clear data ownership, domain catalogs within the centralized Unity Catalog governance model, metadata and semantic definitions, lineage, data quality monitoring, data classification, and role-based access controls that support both country-specific and approved regional (e.g., AML) consumption through country-segregated workspaces.

Ensure data products comply with enterprise security, privacy, data residency and local regulatory requirements across International Banking markets, including the country-specific regulatory approvals and attestations required to use Harbour. Contribute product inputs to required assessments (e.g., TRA, PIA, technical design documentation) and support the evidencing of controls and on-time closure of audit and regulatory commitments.

Manage the full product lifecycle, discovery, design, launch, adoption, enhancement and retirement - working with Delivery Managers and Agile squads on release planning and incremental value delivery.

Own the product business case for the portfolio in scope: benefits definition, funding requests, cost-to-serve and Azure/Databricks consumption (FinOps) attributed through the IB application APMs, including the legacy license and platform costs avoided through decommissioning, with timely escalation of variances.

Communicate product strategy, roadmap, progress and key decisions to senior leadership and stakeholders through clear, executive-ready materials, managing expectations across competing priorities.

Lead, coach and develop a team of Data Product Managers/Product Owners, including work assignment across products and markets, objective setting, performance feedback, career development and participation in hiring; set product management standards (discovery, roadmapping, OKRs, backlog practices) and promote a culture of customer focus, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration, Economics or a related field. A Master's degree (e.g., MBA or MSc in Data/Analytics) is a plus.

Product management certifications are highly desirable (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner / Advanced CSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, Pragmatic Institute); data and cloud certifications (e.g., DAMA CDMP, Azure Data Fundamentals DP-900, Databricks Fundamentals) are an asset.

Experience:

5+ years of progressive experience in product management, data management or data and analytics roles, including at least 3 years as a Product Manager or Product Owner for data products, data platforms or analytics capabilities.

Proven track record defining, launching and scaling data products with measurable business outcomes and consumer adoption in a global, matrixed organization across multiple countries.

Demonstrated experience directly supervising, coaching and developing product professionals (Product Managers, Product Owners or Business Analysts), including work assignment, performance feedback and hiring.

Experience in banking or financial services, with working knowledge of regulatory and audit expectations (e.g., OSFI, local LATAM regulators, GDPR and data residency/privacy requirements) and how they shape data product design.

Solid understanding of modern lakehouse architecture on Microsoft Azure: Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Data Factory, change data capture/event streaming (e.g., Azure Event Hubs), data contracts, medallion patterns, producer/consumer design, and consumption through Power BI and SQL. Knowledge should be sufficient to shape solutions, challenge trade-offs and hold credible technical conversations; exposure to AI/ML consumption patterns is an asset.

Experience with product discovery and prioritization practices (user research, value/effort frameworks such as WSJF or RICE, OKRs) and with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence and Power BI for product metrics and reporting.

Experience building business cases, securing funding and managing product cost-to-serve, including cloud cost (FinOps) awareness.

Familiarity with data governance, data quality frameworks, metadata, semantic layers and catalog tools (e.g., Unity Catalog), domain-oriented data ownership (data mesh concepts, BIAN domain models) and control evidence requirements in a regulated, multi-country environment.

Skills:

Strategic product thinking, with the ability to set a compelling vision and translate it into a prioritized, outcome-driven roadmap.

Exceptional communication, storytelling and influencing skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business audiences and present clearly to senior leadership.

Strong customer focus and understanding of data consumers, turning ambiguous business needs into clear, valuable product definitions.

Sound judgment in prioritization and decision-making under competing demands, with strong negotiation and conflict-resolution abilities in high-visibility environments.

Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to measuring product value, adoption and quality.

Ability to coach product teams, leaders and stakeholders on product management practices and a product-oriented operating model for data.

Spanish language ability is a strong asset given the International Banking footprint across Latin America and the Caribbean.
