Purpose:
The GTB Payment Operations team is part of Global Transactional Banking and the largest operational support unit for GTB (Global Transaction Banking) within Scotiabank. As a member of the Electronic Processing team, the Senior Manager is responsible for contributing to the overall success of the division which processes payments valued at approximately CAD 5 Billion+ equivalent per day in a manner consistent with the overall strategy of developing a customer-focused global support culture.

The incumbent will work closely with the Director - GTB Payment Operations in the identification, initiation, research and development of process solutions with the intent of improving overall operational efficiency/effectiveness while ensuring that compliance, risk and regulatory issues are adhered to. They may supervise a staff of approximately 5 FTE. The incumbent provides effective and efficient leadership to staff who provide specialized support to a highly diverse base of Correspondent Banking, Corporate, Commercial and Small Business customers of the Bank. Support is provided on operational fulfillment, processing, investigating and product consultation for the bank’s cash management electronic banking payment and cash letter services.The incumbent is responsible for operational effectiveness and efficiency and manages, Electronic Payment Processing officers, Vostro Accounting, and Cashiering Services.

What You'll Do:

Work with the GTB Payment Operations team to resolve highly complex, multi-faceted problems to meet the business needs with a specific focus on creating tangible / measurable operational efficiencies through the application of business, financial, and process engineering knowledge.
Direction will be provided by both the Director/Managing Director.
Assist in the development and operation of a comprehensive production management metrics process that provides necessary MIS to GTB Senior Management for decision support purposes
Work with the GTB Projects Team and Technology teams to design and transfer large scale manual processes for automation by building business requirements and providing process expertise
Identifies the need for conferences in order to resolve complex customer issues when all existing processes have failed to provide satisfactory resolution.
May interact with external customers, when appropriate, on recommendations in order to prevent reoccurrence of similar challenges
Ensure relevant data/credit limits/approvals/standard operating procedures are documented/retained and adhered to in accordance with bank strategy
Effectively manage and supervise staff (through project assignments) by setting (or providing input for) performance expectations, monitoring performance, providing performance feedback as required
Assists Officers, Managers, Sr. Managers, and Director with assigned tasks within different pods/teams
Reviews/provides authorization for transactions and/or temporary credit requests to execute the requirement of servicing / amendments to existing accounts, products & services, and subsequent funding as applicable.
Operates independently day-to-day within assigned authorities/limits (transactional limits up to $999 Million and/or lending limits up to $20 million in total authorized credits)
Reviews and processes high volume of standard/non-standard service and credit transactions of companies.
Acts as a dedicated point of contact for day to day service activities and provides service and support to our clients and business partners as required. Business Units supported are: Commercial Banking, Small Business, Corporate, Global Risk Management, Payments & Cash Management, Audit, Quality Assurance, Trade services, Scotia Leasing, Real Estate Banking, Client Services and Solutions, Cash Management Call Centre, Symcor, Resiliency, and other operational units (as applicable)
Participates in pilots, and test & learns, as required.
Participates in cross-training to broaden skillsets across different areas.
Assists different Service Pods as needed, includes providing back up to Managers/Assistant Managers, and coverage for the officers within the Service teams as required.

What You'll Bring:

Practical knowledge and 7 to 10 years of management experience in Back office Products with solid understanding of Payment Processing, CPA/US standards, back office operational processes/interfaces and risk management techniques
Superior technical knowledge in MS Office tools and process management software
Strong communications and influencing skills
Solid process/procedural documentation skill
Post-Secondary Education or a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in Financial Services or related industry.
Knowledge of business credit as it applies to Corporate and Commercial Banking’s policies & procedures, products & services, and security & collateral documentation.
Strong leadership and strategic relationship skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
