The Senior Manager, Global Effectiveness & Initiatives leads the execution and delivery of strategic initiatives that enhance the effectiveness, quality, and performance of AML Investigations globally, aligned to the Target Operating Model and enterprise priorities.

The role is responsible for driving end-to-end delivery of initiatives, issue remediation, and continuous improvement efforts, while strengthening quality control, training, and capacity management practices across the function.

The Senior Manager works across stakeholders to ensure timely execution, measurable outcomes, and sustain improvements in investigative effectiveness, supporting a high-quality, risk-based, and efficient Global AML Investigations program.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Initiatives & Delivery
Leads the execution and delivery of AML Investigations initiatives across people, process, tools, and operating model components. Manages project timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder coordination to ensure successful and timely implementation of initiatives aligned with the Target Operating Model.

Regulatory, Audit & Issue Management
Coordinates responses to regulatory requests, audit findings, and 2nd-line reviews related to AML Investigations. Manages issue tracking, supports root cause analysis, and drives remediation activities to closure, ensuring adherence to timelines and documentation standards.
Resource & Capacity Management Standards
Applies and supports standardized capacity management methodologies to assess workload, resource allocation, and productivity. Produces insights and reporting to inform resource planning decisions and highlights capacity risks or inefficiencies.
Training & Capability Development
Supports the development, rollout, and maintenance of investigator training programs in partnership with the AML Academy. Ensures alignment to current risks, products, and investigative techniques, and tracks completion, effectiveness, and identified capability gaps.
Quality Control
Executes quality control frameworks, including monitoring, testing, and reporting on investigation quality. Identifies trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities, and partners with stakeholders to implement enhancements to quality standards and practices.
Supports the VP, Global Head of AML Investigations, in the strategic coordination and execution of centralized people and engagement activities, including Pulse, employee engagement and recognition initiatives, year-end performance processes and ratings, compensation planning inputs, and internal communications. Acts as a key liaison across the VP’s leadership team to drive alignment, follow-through, and operational cadence.
Flexibility & Cross-Coverage
Supports priorities across the broader Global Design & Standards function to ensure continuity of delivery, cross-coverage, and alignment across initiatives, including standards, quality, training, and capacity management.
Leads and drives a Client-focused culture throughout their team to deepen Client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
Supports the implementation of new AML methodologies and monitoring tools to mitigate new and emerging money laundering (ML)/terrorist financing (TF), and sanctions risks, while conducting ongoing analysis of core operational processes to identify potential procedural gaps and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Oversees centralized, group-wide information sharing in accordance with policy. Applies this information in managing reputational and regulatory AML related risks.
Collaborates (and leads where appropriate) with key Transaction Monitoring (TM) and AML Investigations stakeholders, , on audit/issue management and closure, reporting, communications & change management, process/procedure enhancements, resource planning, and special projects.
Understands how the Bank’s Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Creates an environment in which teams pursue effective and efficient operations, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, and conduct risk. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those defined under the Enterprise-wide AML & ATF and Sanctions Handbook, Scotiabank Code of Conduct, the Anti-Corruption Policy, Scotiabank Information Security Policy, and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.
Consistently acquires extensive knowledge of local and significant and relevant international AML laws and regulations.
Develops expertise with the applicable case management systems, bank information systems, and analytics reporting tools and shares insights, as appropriate.
Reviews relevant Management Information Reports and other analytics tools provided and where risk related or productivity concerns or anomalies are identified and escalates to the Director, as appropriate.
Employs AML related systems and process expertise and experience, identifies and implements process enhancements, and oversees the resolution of systems and/or process deficiencies.
Builds a high-performance environment by implementing a human resource strategy that retains, develops, and motivates their team, fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating Scotiabank’s and the Global AML Department’s visions, values, and business strategy.
Strategically anticipates and identifies the need for additional resources, leading the hiring and human resource development process, managing succession and development planning for the team, and identifying and promoting high-performing individuals.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

Bachelor’s degree (University Degree) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in AML, Compliance, Audit, Management Consulting, Operational Effectiveness, and/or Program Execution capacity in a major financial institution or a professional services firm; or equivalent in education and years of experience.
Experience driving large-scale transformation, change management, or continuous improvement initiatives from design through execution.
Background in AML, Audit, Compliance, or management consulting, operational effectiveness, or hands-on program execution is a strong asset.
Proven ability to design and implement frameworks for quality, capacity management, or performance measurement.
Proven ability to influence and drive outcomes across the organization without direct line authority.
Thrives in fast-paced environments; detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Comfort with ambiguity and ability to operate at pace with exceptional attention to detail
Strong sense of ownership; proactive and responsive in enabling senior leaders to perform at the highest level.
Leverages technology and AI tools to drive efficiency, quality, and speed of delivery.
Ability to manage stakeholders and drive outcomes across a highly matrixed organization.

Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist designation is an asset.
