Assistant Project Manager – Electrical Construction

Location: GTA

Position Type: Full-Time, Office-Based

Salary: $60,000–$80,000, based on experience

Position Overview

Our client, an established electrical contractor working extensively in the high-rise construction sector, is looking to add an Assistant Project Manager to its project team.

This is primarily an office-based position supporting electrical construction projects through coordination, documentation, procurement, cost tracking and communication with project stakeholders. The role is suited to someone with an electrical background who is looking to move further into project coordination and project management.

Candidates may come from a construction coordination background or from the electrical trade, including individuals who have spent time working on site and are interested in transitioning into an office/project management position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with the day-to-day coordination of active electrical construction projects.
  • Review project requirements and help organize information required by field teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate purchasing, material requirements, equipment orders and delivery schedules.
  • Track shop drawings, submittals and approvals.
  • Prepare, issue and follow up on RFIs and other project documentation.
  • Maintain project records, correspondence, logs and meeting information.
  • Assist with project schedules and monitor important dates and deliverables.
  • Track extras, revisions and change orders throughout the project.
  • Assist with pricing and documentation associated with changes in project scope.
  • Support progress billing, cost tracking and general project financial administration.
  • Communicate regularly with site personnel to ensure required information and materials are available.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, consultants, suppliers and other project participants.
  • Assist with deficiencies, commissioning, closeout documentation and O&M information.
  • Provide general administrative and coordination support across multiple projects as required.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Approximately 1–3 years of construction, electrical or project coordination experience preferred.
  • Previous electrical construction experience is an asset.
  • Electrical apprenticeship or hands-on field experience will be considered.
  • Diploma or degree in construction management, electrical engineering technology or a related discipline is beneficial but not mandatory for candidates with relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding of electrical construction drawings, materials and terminology is an asset.
  • Experience working with change orders, extras and project costing is beneficial.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar electrical estimating software is an asset.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office and standard construction/project documentation.
  • Able to organize and track multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Details

This is an office-based project coordination position rather than a site-based construction role.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers and field personnel on electrical construction projects, with significant exposure to high-rise residential work.

Benefits are available following the initial three-month period.

The position is available for an immediate start.
