Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Chemical Operator Trainee works within SECURE’s Specialty Chemicals division to safely prepare, blend, package, and load chemical products. This hands-on role uses pumps, hoses, forklifts, blenders, mixers, SDSs, and appropriate PPE - including respirators - to complete blends as directed by the Plant Foreman.

You will participate in daily toolbox meetings, review process orders, confirm raw material availability, accurately complete blends, submit retain samples to Quality Control, and label and dispense finished products. You will also help maintain equipment, prepare materials for upcoming production, keep the blend room and warehouse organized, and support loading, unloading, and spill cleanup activities as required.

This role is based out of Blackfalds, Alberta.

You will work alongside a collaborative team of chemical operators, plant personnel, and leaders who are committed to producing quality products safely and efficiently. The team supports one another, takes pride in its work, and works together to meet customer and operational needs.

Work Environment

This is a physically active role in a blend room and warehouse environment. You will work with chemical materials, pumps, hoses, forklifts, blenders, mixers, drums, and other equipment while following SDS requirements, safety procedures, and appropriate PPE protocols. The role requires extended periods on your feet, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and evening and weekend on-call availability as required.

A Day in The Life

Attend daily toolbox meetings to understand planned activities and priorities.
Review process orders and confirm all required raw materials are available.
Bring required raw materials into the blend area.
Ensure blenders, hoses, pumps, and related equipment are clean and in good working order.
Safely operate pumps, hoses, forklifts, blenders, mixers, and other required equipment.
Accurately follow blending instructions and complete each blend according to specifications.
Collect retain samples and submit them to Quality Control for testing.
Label containers and package, dispense, or load finished products.
Ensure viscous materials are placed in ovens for the following day’s blends.
Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy work area.
Assist with loading and unloading empty drums as required.
Support general housekeeping in the blend room and warehouse.
Assist with spill cleanup when required.
Follow all safety, environmental, SDS, PPE, and company policies and procedures.
Actively contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.
Participate in evening and weekend on-call responsibilities as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or Plant Foreman.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

One to two years of chemical handling experience, particularly with pumps and hoses.
Experience blending, transferring, packaging, loading, or handling TDG-regulated or dangerous goods.
Forklift experience or certification.
Maintenance and computer skills.
Knowledge of oil and gas chemicals or specialty chemical products.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Good verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and material-handling procedures.
Ability to operate required equipment safely and responsibly.
Ability to identify the appropriate tools and equipment required to complete a job.
Physically fit, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work safely with chemical products and follow SDS and PPE requirements.
TDG, WHMIS 2015, and First Aid certifications are considered assets.
