Who We Need
As a
Senior Analytics Engineer, you'll play a key role in
building the trusted analytics foundation that helps shape strategic decisions across Securian Canada. Your work will influence how teams understand customers, products, and business performance, while helping modernize the future of analytics across the organization.
As part of the Analytics & Insights team, you'll design and build reusable data products that make it easier for people across the organization to access consistent, reliable insights. From curated datasets and data marts to semantic models, certified metrics, and shared business logic, you'll help turn complex data into meaningful information that supports smarter decisions.
Working closely with Analytics & Insights, Business Intelligence, Data Pipeline Engineering, Data Governance, and business partners across the organization, you'll contribute to a
scalable analytics ecosystem that empowers teams with trusted data and a shared understanding of performance, customers, products, and markets.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical expertise with big-picture thinking. Using your strengths in SQL, data modeling, and modern data transformation practices, you'll help move the organization beyond one-time reporting requests toward sustainable, reusable data solutions. Your contributions will improve consistency, reduce manual effort, and create new opportunities for
advanced analytics, business intelligence, and AI-driven innovation.

The base salary range for this position is between $100,000 to $130,000 depending on experience. Details of our additional benefits are outlined below. This job posting is for an existing vacancy. Only one position is available. However, it may be based in multiple locations: Toronto (ON), or Waterloo (ON), or Montreal (QC).
What You Will Do
Design Trusted Data Products
- Build and maintain curated analytical datasets, data marts, semantic models, and reusable data products that power enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Transform enterprise data into trusted, scalable, and business-ready assets that help teams make informed decisions.
- Design analytical models that balance performance, usability, and long-term scalability.
- Create reusable business logic and data transformations that reduce redundancy and improve consistency across the organization.
- Develop analytical solutions that support diverse business needs while maintaining enterprise standards.
Enable Consistent Insights Across the Business
- Develop semantic models, certified metrics, KPIs, and shared business logic that create a single source of truth.
- Partner with business and analytics stakeholders to translate complex requirements into reliable technical solutions.
- Help establish a trusted analytics layer that drives confidence in reporting, dashboards, and decision-making.
- Support self-service analytics by delivering intuitive and governed data products that empower users to explore data with confidence.
- Ensure analytical assets are well-documented, traceable, and easily understood by technical and business audiences.
Drive Engineering Excellence
- Implement automated testing, validation, reconciliation, and data quality controls across analytical workflows.
- Lead technical design reviews and contribute to analytics engineering best practices across the organization.
- Promote scalable development standards that improve reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Apply modern software engineering principles including version control, code review, deployment automation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Data Governance teams to ensure ownership, lineage, controls, and traceability are embedded within analytical assets.
Accelerate Innovation and AI Enablement
- Develop analytical foundations that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and emerging AI capabilities.
- Collaborate with Data Pipeline Engineering, BI, and Analytics teams to ensure data products meet current and future business needs.
- Identify opportunities to move the organization from one-off reporting solutions toward sustainable, reusable analytical products.
- Support the modernization of enterprise analytics capabilities through innovative thinking and continuous improvement.
- Help shape the future of data-driven decision-making at Securian Canada.
Collaborate and Lead
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor across analytics, engineering, and business teams.
- Provide mentorship and guidance on analytical modeling, transformation design, and data product development.
- Build strong partnerships that foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability while delivering high-quality solutions that create measurable business value.
What You Will Bring
- University degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, BI engineering, or modern cloud data environments.
- Advanced SQL expertise and significant experience developing production-grade ELT pipelines, dimensional models, and reusable analytical data products.
- Experience working with modern cloud data warehouse, lakehouse, or analytics engineering platforms.
- Strong understanding of semantic modeling, governed metrics, KPI frameworks, and enterprise analytics architecture.
- Experience supporting AI, GenAI, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions through well-structured and governed data foundations.
- Proficiency in modern software development practices, including automated testing, data quality management, code review, deployment, and version control.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Experience with Python, modern BI platforms, and regulated industries is considered an asset.
- A product-oriented mindset, with a passion for building reusable solutions that deliver long-term business value.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
