Edmonton Islamic Academy (EIA) is seeking Substitute Educational Assistants to support students in our Secondary Division on an as-needed basis.
The successful candidate will provide instructional and ESL support to students under the direction of the Specialized Services Coordinator and classroom teachers. The Educational Assistant will help students develop the academic, language, and learning skills needed to succeed in the educational setting.
The role may include one-on-one support, small-group assistance, classroom support, resource preparation, and student supervision.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional and ESL support to secondary students
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students as directed
- Support students in following individualized learning plans and classroom programming
- Assist students with academic tasks, language development, organization, and classroom routines
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and the Specialized Services Coordinator regarding student progress and needs
- Assist with communication and reporting related to student support
- Prepare learning materials and classroom resources as required
- Supervise students during assigned instructional and non-instructional times
- Support positive student behavior and appropriate classroom participation
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school personnel
- Follow Edmonton Islamic Academy policies, procedures, and expectations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education And Experience
- Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education is an asset
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset
- Courses or training related to supporting students with special needs are an asset
- Experience supporting English Language Learners is an asset
- Minimum of one year of related experience is preferred
- Experience working with junior high or high school students is considered an asset
