The Role
Reporting to the Team Lead, Research Engineer, this role advances Seequent Labs research and prototyping in geological modelling and artificial intelligence. The Senior Research Scientist takes ideas from research and testing through prototyping and customer validation, with consideration for market fit.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Discover, research, prototype, and validate new geomodelling algorithms and workflows.
- Advance novel and efficient applications of algorithms, analytics, and computing to address complex geomodelling challenges.
- Champion innovation and help drive organizational best practices across multiple projects and research areas.
- Apply the latest advancements in geomodelling to practical solutions and act as a technical advisor to colleagues.
- Formulate and document benchmarks and case studies, and present research to customers to gather feedback and identify improvements.
- Share knowledge and expertise through internal and external activities, including conferences and publications.
- Build and maintain relationships with academic and industry partners, including universities and research programs.
- Contribute to technical committees and working groups to influence industry standards and advance innovation in geomodelling.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in similar roles, including industry experience outside academia.
- A master's degree or equivalent with extensive domain experience, or a PhD with several years of relevant experience.
- Extensive geoscience experience in areas such as geochemistry, structural geology, prospectivity, exploration geology, mining geology, or geological modelling.
- Extensive quantitative expertise in areas such as numerical analysis, optimization, probabilistic methods, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
- Strong planning skills and the ability to coordinate activities involving a team and multiple stakeholders.
- A strong problem-solving mentality and growth mindset.
- A business-oriented mindset with the ability to influence and contribute to product strategy.
- The ability to collaborate effectively across Seequent and with customers, academic partners, and industry stakeholders.
