Original job description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Lead Engineer – Integrated Structural & Systems Installation Design to lead complex, multi-zone aircraft design and physical integration activities. In this role, you will be responsible for defining structural concepts, optimizing systems routing, resolving spatial conflicts, and driving cross-disciplinary technical decisions from initial design through certification and in-service support.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Structural & Installation Design
- Design & Modeling: Develop and review 3D models, structural concepts, assemblies, installation layouts, routing, supports, and detail/installation drawings for assigned aircraft zones.
- Hardware & Interface Definition: Define metallic and composite parts, load-bearing joints, interfaces, fastener concepts, tolerances, attachment schemes, access provisions, and clearances for equipment, ducts, pipes, tubes, hoses, brackets, and related hardware.
- Optimized Zone Integration: Establish integrated structural and systems-installation solutions that balance structural load paths, safety, functional needs, producibility, maintainability, installation sequence, weight, and cost.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate product definition across stress, materials & processes, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, interiors, safety, manufacturing, quality, mass properties, and operations teams, as well as external partners and suppliers.
- Spatial & Interface Resolution: Manage zone-level spatial integration, resolving clashes, geometric conflicts, interface discrepancies, and competing technical requirements.
- Trade Studies & Reviews: Lead technical trade studies and design reviews, clearly presenting design intent, assumptions, constraints, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Certification & Verification: Support substantiation, compliance verification, validation, and qualification activities with traceable design data and sound engineering rationale.
- Production & Fleet Support: Deliver integrated technical solutions for production, ground-test, flight-test, and in-service issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Configuration & Change Management: Manage engineering changes, evaluate cross-disciplinary impacts, and maintain configuration data within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) environment.
- Multi-Zone Leadership: Lead complex, multi-zone or multi-system design initiatives and set coherent structural and integration standards.
- Design Authority: Review and approve significant technical solutions within delegated authority and lead high-level cross-disciplinary investigations.
- Mentorship & Best Practices: Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, influence technical strategy across teams, and advance internal digital design tools, methods, and lessons learned.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
- Aerospace Experience: Typically 10–15+ years of progressive aerospace engineering experience, with a heavy focus on aircraft structural design, systems physical installation, or aircraft zone integration.
- Structures & Materials: Deep expertise in metallic and composite design principles, primary/secondary load paths, joint definition, fasteners, tolerancing, GD&T, aerospace materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Systems Installation: Proven ability to route and integrate mechanical/electrical systems hardware (ducting, piping, tubing, hoses, harnesses, brackets, and equipment).
- Design Criteria: Advanced understanding of zone constraints, clearances, access, maintainability, installation sequences, producibility, and certification fundamentals.
- CAD / PLM: High proficiency in CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and MS Office. Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter is a strong asset.
- Processes: Thorough working knowledge of PLM systems, engineering change processes, and product definition standards.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex engineering concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
- Problem-Solving: Strong systems-thinking approach with proven judgment, analytical rigor, and accountability.
- Influence & Guidance: Demonstrated capability to reconcile competing stakeholder requirements, influence key decisions without direct authority, and coach team members.
- English: Fluent written and spoken (Mandatory).
- French: Working knowledge or fluency is considered a valuable asset.
