Original job description

Who we are

Senaltek is a Canadian company providing solution-focused engineering and design services specializing in all things structural. We are Engineers, problem solvers, partners, and experts helping our clients across all industries develop solutions to meet any structural challenge.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a motivated Structural Engineer-in-Training to join our team. This role is a chance to build a broad structural foundation early, working directly with senior engineers across a wide range of project types rather than being limited to one niche.

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate, or has up to four years of experience, and is registered or eligible for registration as an E.I.T. You would be comfortable preparing calculations and drawings under the direction of a senior engineer, and interested in learning the inspection and assessment side of the work as well as design.

Education and professional experience required

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil / Structural Engineering.
Registration, or eligibility for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with APEGA, EGBC, or an equivalent provincial association.
0–4 years of experience in a structural or civil engineering role, including co-op or internship terms.

Responsibilities include

Preparing structural steel, concrete, and timber design calculations and analysis under the direction of a senior engineer.
Assisting with structural and technical assessments and reports.
Preparing drawings, sketches, and markups to support project deliverables.
Attending site visits, inspections, and assessments alongside senior staff.
Supporting senior engineers and project managers with day-to-day project coordination.

Qualifications & experience needed

A working understanding of structural engineering principles and an interest in applying them across steel, reinforced concrete, and timber.
Exposure to structural analysis software (e.g. Risa, SAP2000) through coursework or work experience.
Detail oriented with the ability to focus on technical problems for extended periods.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with projects of varying size and complexity.
Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Must have a can-do attitude and be a true self starter, willing to dig deep to find solutions.
Must have excellent communication skills and be willing to ask questions.
Must be a team player and have the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Standout experience that we would like to see

Experience with AutoCAD or Revit.
Exposure to FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and/or dynamic analysis.
Co-op, internship, or summer experience with a consulting engineering firm.
Field or construction experience of any kind.

How to apply

Please submit both of the following:

A cover letter indicating why you would be a fit for this role.
Your resume and contact information.

Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. We appreciate all candidates taking the time to apply, however only successful candidates will be contacted.
