Geneal Labourer
Casual Relief Woker
Position Summary:
The Casual Relief General Labourer shall perform a variety of physical and support tasks to assist skilled tradespeople, maintain job sites, operate tools and machinery, and ensure workplace safety across construction, manufacturing, and maintenance settings.
The Casual Relief General Labourer is responsible for a wide range of tasks that support operational efficiency and project completion
Position Duties
- Adhere to all legislative and Serpent River First Nation safety acts and policies.
- Cleaning and organizing workspaces, removing debris, preparing construction or manufacturing sites, and ensuring a safe environment for workers
- Loading, unloading, transporting and distributing materials and equipment to work areas
- Supporting electricians, plumbers, carpenters and other craft workers with tasks that require additional labour
- Using hand and power tools safely, operating machinery and performing routine maintenance on equipment
- Assembling and disassembling scaffolding, ramps, temporary structure, or other components; digging trenches, backfilling and compacting earth
- Following safety protocols, participating in training programs, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulation
- Collecting trash, debris, and waste materials, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment
- Setting up barricades, cones, or markers near construction sites when required
Qualifications
- Possess a minimum grade 12 education or equivalent is preferred
- Prior experience in construction or labour is advantageous but not always required
- Effective collaboration with supervisors, contractors, and other team members
- Knowledge of safety practices, willingness to follow protocols, and ability to work in noisy or hazardous environments
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand, bend, and perform strenuous tasks for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors and may be exposed to various weather conditions, noise, and physically demanding tasks, requiring adaptability and endurance
- Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with the general public management and
- Able to work overtime to meet deadlines and/or emergency situations
- Ability to work as a team in a fast paced environment
- Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with a clear driver's
Cultural & Community Knowledge
Knowledge of and respect for Anishinaabe history, culture, teachings, and values- Knowledge of the Seven Grandfather Teachings
- Ability to understand Ojibwe is considered a strong asset
Additional Requirements
Clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC); Vulnerable Sector Check may be required- First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain with the first three months of employment
