Casual Relief Receptionist

Position Summary:

The purpose of the Casual Relief Transition House Attendant position is to be responsible for the health and welfare of the clients, security of the facilities and administration of any emergencies of clients staying at the Transition Home. The Transition House Attendant should conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to the needs of the residents and works as an integral member of the Social Service and Culture department.

Duties:

Maintain continuous, positive atmosphere within the home.
Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures for Serpent River First Nation.
Must be able to work within the policies, procedures for the Transition Home, strictly adhering to the confidentiality policies for clients, volunteers and staff.
Maintains a harm reduction, trauma informed approach when working with residents.
Conducts regular house checks inside and outside of the home for security/safety.
Identifies any concerns and assesses the severity of issues and notifies the appropriate authorities of any emergencies as required to ensure the health and safety of all individuals residing in the home.
Works in an integrated manner with other programs and services to support the needs of the residents
Must be able to work with other staff & individually in providing a warm, home-like therapeutic environment for the residents.
Consistently re-enforces all client-related policies and procedures.
Consults with staff from previous shift and next shift for instructions, reminders & observation on resident behaviors.
Checks in late arrivals as per admission procedures and instructions.
Maintain shift log, communications logs and case notes on all pertinent information of events and activities pertaining to the clients and agency during shift.
Ensures residents complete housekeeping duties as per required, scheduled or left by staff.
Complete all office related duties as per required or left by day/afternoon staff.
Oversee the scheduled activities of the residents. This includes; monitoring resident visits/visitors/parcels/purchases/meals/chores and overseeing lights out at designated time.
Is responsible for the safe storage of resident’s prescriptions and the provision of them as per the local policy.
When requested by the residents, and as scheduled by prescription; retrieves medication from locked safekeeping, provide it to the client and observe prescribed dosage being taken. Make proper receding’s in the medication record and sign.
Answer telephone and convey messages as required.
Record keeping as outlined by Administration.
Will be required to participate in Serpent River First Nation events and/or training opportunities to support their day-to-day work at the Transition Home.
Other duties as assigned by Serpent River First Nation Administration.

Qualifications

Social Services Diploma or equivalent post-secondary education, addictions and mental health training and/or experience
Mature individual, who is able to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
Familiar with residential settings
Excellent organizational skills
Naloxone training or ability to obtain within the first month of employment
Defibrillator training or ability to obtain within the first month of employment
Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with the general public, management and employees
Excellent communication and problem solving skills
Be able to work shift work, flexible hours of work as required
Be able to work overtime to meet deadline and/or emergency situations
Proficiency with office suite computer software and office equipment
Ability to work as a team in a fast paced environment

Cultural & Community Knowledge

Knowledge of and respect for Anishinaabe history, culture, teachings, and values
Knowledge of the Seven Grandfather Teachings
Ability to understand Ojibwe is considered a strong asset

Additional Requirements

Clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC); Vulnerable Sector Check may be required
First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain with the first three months of employment
