The Data Architect provides architectural leadership for Servus’s enterprise data ecosystem, translating business, data, and technology strategies into scalable, secure, governed, and resilient solutions. The role establishes enterprise data architecture standards and designs solutions for integrating, modelling, storing, governing, and accessing data. The Data Architect leads the design of enterprise data models, data products, integration patterns, and cloud data platforms, partnering across business and technology teams. Responsibilities include solution design, data integration, modelling, metadata, lineage, and evaluating emerging technologies to drive innovation, simplification, trusted data, and alignment with enterprise strategy.

What you’ll be doing:

Data Architect

• Lead the design of scalable, secure, governed, and resilient enterprise data solutions.
• Define data architecture standards, patterns, models, and reference architectures.
• Design end-to-end solutions across Databricks, Microsoft Azure, Power BI, and other enterprise platforms.
• Guide the development of enterprise data models, governed data products, and reusable data components.
• Modernize and simplify the data landscape by reducing duplication, technical debt, and unnecessary complexity.

Data Management & Governance

• Embed governance, security, privacy, metadata, lineage, and data quality into architecture by design.
• Establish modelling standards and define patterns for data integration, access, masking, and provisioning.
• Enable trusted, governed data through Microsoft Purview and Databricks Unity Catalog.
• Ensure solutions are designed for performance, scalability, interoperability, maintainability, and cost efficiency.

Analytics & AI Enablement

• Design architecture that enables trusted data for Power BI, analytics, machine learning, generative AI, and AI agents.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and lead proofs of concept that advance Servus’s data capabilities.
• Ensure enterprise data is AI-ready, secure, governed, and reusable across business use cases.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Be a trusted technical advisor on enterprise data architecture.
• Partner across Data Management, Engineering, Analytics, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and the business to turn requirements into sustainable solutions.
• Lead architecture decisions, communicate complex concepts clearly, and build alignment across teams.
• Coach and mentor others, promoting reuse, simplification, innovation, and strong architecture practices.

What you bring:

Experience and Education:

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Software Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, data management, or enterprise data solutions.
• Strong experience designing enterprise solutions using Databricks, Microsoft Azure, SQL, and Power BI.
• Advanced knowledge of data architecture and modelling, including conceptual, logical, and physical models.
• Experience with lakehouse, data warehouse, data integration, APIs, ETL/ELT, and governed data products.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, metadata, lineage, data quality, master/reference data, and access controls, including technologies such as Microsoft Purview and Databricks Unity Catalog.
• Experience designing data solutions that enable analytics, machine learning, generative AI, and AI agents.

Certifications considered an asset

• DAMA/CDMP
• Microsoft Azure data or architecture certifications
• Databricks data engineering or architecture certifications
• TOGAF or equivalent architecture training

Other Role Requirements:

• Work arrangement: Remote first
• Occasional travel to Edmonton, Calgary, or Red Deer may be necessary as part of this position.
