Original job description
SESS Holdings Inc. is looking for an experienced Director of Operations to oversee operational performance across our regulated cannabis organization.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who understands SOPs, compliance, accountability, production, people management, and continuous improvement.
The Director of Operations will work across all departments, ensuring that systems are being followed, identifying operational gaps, improving processes, and reporting directly to senior executive leadership.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee operational performance across cultivation, processing, packaging, inventory, warehousing, maintenance, quality, compliance, and supporting departments
- Develop, review, implement, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure departments are operating consistently with company procedures and regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular operational walkthroughs, audits, and performance reviews
- Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, compliance risks, staffing concerns, and process gaps
- Work directly with department managers to implement corrective actions and operational improvements
- Establish KPIs, accountability systems, follow-up procedures, and performance expectations
- Ensure operational issues are documented, assigned, corrected, and verified
- Improve communication and coordination between departments
- Support employee training and retraining when procedures change
- Drive labour efficiency, productivity, cost control, quality, and continuous improvement
- Provide regular operational reporting to senior leadership
- Participate in management meetings and strategic planning
This Is a Hands-On Role
We are looking for someone who is comfortable being present throughout the operation - not someone who manages exclusively from an office.
The Director of Operations must be able to move between departments, observe processes first-hand, speak directly with employees and managers, and verify that operational standards are being maintained.
The role also requires flexibility to occasionally attend the facility outside traditional management hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, to ensure operations are functioning properly across different shifts.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in the Canadian regulated cannabis industry strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of SOP development and implementation
- Experience in regulated manufacturing, cultivation, processing, or production environments
- Understanding of Health Canada cannabis requirements, GPP, GMP, quality systems, or similar regulated frameworks
- Experience with CAPA, operational audits, and corrective actions
- Strong leadership and cross-functional management skills
- Experience developing KPIs and accountability systems
- Strong problem-solving and process-improvement abilities
- Ability to work independently and make operational decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
You are someone who can walk into an operation, understand how it is supposed to function, determine how it is actually functioning, and build the systems required to close the gap.
You are organized, accountable, practical, and comfortable challenging processes when something can be done better.
Most importantly, you understand that strong cannabis operations require a balance of compliance, quality, efficiency, people, and execution.
Reports to: Senior Executive Leadership
Industry: Canadian Cannabis
Employment Type: Full-Time
Seniority Level: Director / Senior Management
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through LinkedIn with a resume outlining relevant operations, cannabis, SOP, quality, or regulated manufacturing experience.
