About Sevens
Sevens is developing a next-generation connectivity solution for mobile users and distributed assets. We are currently developing our first integrated hardware prototype and are looking for a hands-on Industrial Designer to help shape the physical product.
The Industrial Designer will work closely with the founding team and engineering resources to translate the requirements into a practical, compact, and user-focused physical product.
Position Summary
The Industrial Designer will be responsible for the physical design and enclosure development of Sevens' first hardware prototype.
The role will cover product form, ergonomics, enclosure design, component placement, CAD development, prototyping, and design iteration, while working closely with the hardware and embedded engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Industrial & Product Design
- Develop the physical form and overall product concept for the Sevens device.
- Translate technical requirements and engineering constraints into a practical product design.
- Develop concepts for size, shape, proportions, materials, finishes, and overall user experience.
- Design a compact and portable form factor suitable for real-world use.
- Consider ergonomics, usability, durability, accessibility, and product handling.
- Develop the physical design around the required internal components and technical architecture.
Enclosure Design
- Create detailed 3D CAD models of the device and enclosure.
- Design component placement, internal structure, mounting points, access panels, and enclosure interfaces.
- Incorporate displays, buttons, ports, indicators, antennas, and other user-facing elements.
- Work with the Hardware Engineer to accommodate electronics, battery, antennas, thermal requirements, and connectivity components.
- Develop enclosure concepts suitable for rapid prototyping and iterative testing.
Prototyping
- Prepare designs for 3D printing and other rapid-prototyping methods.
- Build and evaluate physical enclosure prototypes.
- Iterate designs based on engineering testing and user feedback.
- Work directly in the ventureLAB hardware lab where appropriate.
- Refine the enclosure through multiple prototype iterations.
Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with the Hardware Engineer on internal component placement and physical constraints.
- Collaborate with the Embedded Systems Engineer to understand device architecture and interfaces.
- Ensure the physical design accommodates connectivity, thermal, power, and antenna requirements.
- Participate in prototype reviews and design decisions.
- Support the transition from an initial prototype toward a production-oriented design.
