Role Description The Safety Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Edmonton, AB, responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across the Tunneling construction activities. This position involves conducting regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and occupational regulations. The Safety Advisor will facilitate toolbox talks, support intervening for safety's sake, and collaborate with site supervisors to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. The role includes maintaining safety documentation, assisting with the development and updating of safety policies and procedures, and providing day-to-day guidance to workers and management on safe work practices and risk mitigation.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and standards.
- Experience delivering effective Safety Training and promoting Workplace Safety through coaching, toolbox talks, and orientation sessions.
- Hands-on background in Construction Safety, including confined space entry, safe limits of approach, working around powered mobile equipment, risk assessments, site inspections, and incident prevention on active construction sites.
- Relevant post-secondary education or certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., OHS diploma, NCSO, or equivalent) is an asset.
- Familiarity with Canadian safety legislation and industry best practices, especially within Alberta.
- Strong communication, documentation, and report-writing skills, with the ability to influence and engage workers at all levels.
- Ability to work on-site in varying weather and construction conditions and to use standard safety inspection tools and software.
