Urgent Hiring-Network Field Engineer Contract Type: 1099 Independent Contractor / FreelanceSupport Model: Ticket-Based / On-Demand Dispatch Work Location: Onsite – [Fort Mc Murray, Alberta]
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Smart Hands / Network Field Engineer to provide onsite support for a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) deployment project.The selected technician will work onsite while coordinating with a remote engineering team to complete equipment installation, cabling, connectivity verification, and cutover activities.ResponsibilitiesPerform onsite Smart Hands / Remote Hands support for network deployment activities.
- Rack and install two Cisco 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs).
- Perform power connections and network cross-connects.
- Verify switchport availability and physical network connectivity.
- Install and connect SFP modules, fiber patch cables, and Ethernet cables.
- Support remote network engineers during installation and cutover activities.
- Perform basic physical and network connectivity troubleshooting.
- Validate equipment installation and connectivity.
- Remove and prepare legacy WLC equipment for return shipment, if required.
- Label and pack equipment as instructed.
- Provide completion updates and site photographs when requested.
- Required Skills & ExperiencePrevious Rack & Stack experience.
- Experience with network cabling and fiber connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco network equipment.
- Cisco WLC installation or deployment experience preferred.
- Smart Hands / Remote Hands / Field Service experience.
- Basic understanding of network connectivity and troubleshooting.
- Ability to follow instructions from remote engineering teams.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Required ToolsTechnicians should have access to:Standard network installation toolkit.
- Laptop with PuTTY and TFTP software.
- Console cable (USB-A to USB-B).
- Ethernet/LAN cables.
- Crossover cable.
- USB/Thumb drive as required for installation files.
- Reliable internet connectivity or mobile hotspot.
- 6-foot ladder.
- Project DeliverablesSuccessful onsite installation of Cisco 9800 WLC equipment.
- Physical power, cabling, and connectivity verification.
- Removal and preparation of legacy equipment, if applicable.
- Completion updates and required site documentation/photos.
- Coordination with the remote engineering team throughout the deployment.
