Original job description

The position reports directly to the Associate Director, Cooperative and Internship Education. The incumbent’s role is to facilitate the student success in co-op, using teaching methodologies, to develop and deliver career planning and job search courses and assistance to students, both individually and in groups, as they prepare to enter the workforce. The incumbent works as part of the Co-op/Internship team to support and advise Program Coordinators of pre/post work term experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

Preparing studies for the co-op work term;
Preparing and delivering Career Development instruction in a classroom environment (may be virtual) to Co-op students using employment preparation materials and teaching methodologies based on the changing demands of the workplace;

Course include: co-op orientation, policies and processes, , resume creation, creative job search techniques, interview techniques, workplace success, and individual career exploration and planning;

Preparing modules and advises students both individually and in a classroom environment to ease the transition from college to the workplace;
Ensuring students are industry ready;
Evaluating student progress and job readiness through delivery and assessment of assignments;
Assisting students to identify learning outcomes in their program to build on individual capabilities and confidence, overcome employment barriers, and strategize on how to market themselves effectively;
Counseling students during individual appointments, telephone and email discussions
Advising students in the creation of a professional resume and cover letter, interview techniques, wage negotiation, professional etiquette and overall decision making while seeking co-op employment;
Using co-op software to keep track of students and employers, and generating reports and records;
Participating in the implementation of new electronic processes to provide expertise relating to Co-op utilization, needs and processes;
Contributing to special projects;
Performing other related duties as assigned.

You are an agile individual with an ability to respond to change, adapt and seek improvements while applying principles of creative problem solving to most appropriately and effectively support each child’s unique needs.

Your collaborative spirit is balanced with your ability to take initiative and act independently to advance initiatives.

You enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Qualifications

Minimum of 3-year diploma/degree in Business, Computer Science, Social Science or related field;
Minimum of 5 years of experience in job development, career counselling and employment preparation, contact management systems, workshop delivery;
Ability to deliver classroom content at a post-secondary standard of facilitation and instruction;
Knowledge required to guide, advise, and support a diverse population of post-secondary students towards a successful job search in their field of study using up-to-date job search approaches, techniques and strategies;
Familiarity with the provisions, practices and trends of Cooperative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada (CEWIL Canada), Education at Work Ontario (EWO) and the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) that relate to Cooperative Education are an asset, as is familiarity with relevant career development theories.
