Certification as a Canadian Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) or equivalent credential.
Experience working in crisis intervention or mental health support roles, preferably within a healthcare or community service setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional training or certification in suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, or substance use counseling.
Experience working with diverse populations, including Indigenous communities and culturally diverse groups.
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data management software.

Previous experience in a hospital or emergency department setting.

Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to crisis calls and walk-in clients, conducting thorough risk assessments to determine immediate needs and safety concerns.
Provide emotional support, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing mental health emergencies.
Develop individualized safety and care plans in collaboration with clients and healthcare professionals.
Coordinate referrals and follow-up services with community agencies, hospitals, and mental health providers to ensure seamless client care.
Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client interactions, assessments, and interventions in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client progress and update care strategies.
Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices in crisis intervention and mental health care.

Skills:

The required skills enable the Crisis Support Worker to effectively assess and respond to individuals in distress, utilizing active listening, empathy, and crisis de-escalation techniques daily. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with clients, families, and healthcare teams to develop and implement safety plans. Organizational skills support accurate documentation and case management, ensuring continuity of care and compliance with legal standards.
