Original job description
ShipTop is a technology-enabled third-party logistics (3PL) company founded in Vancouver in 2021. We provide eCommerce fulfillment, warehousing, shipping, inventory management and freight coordination for growing brands across Canada and the United States. Our team runs warehouses in Vancouver, Toronto, Blaine (WA) and Ferndale (WA).
The Role
The Senior Accountant owns day-to-day accounting for ShipTop Logistics Inc. (Canada) and its US subsidiary, ShipTop, Inc. You will manage payables, receivables, reconciliations and month-end close in QuickBooks Online, working in CAD and USD. You will work closely with the Accounting Manager and the CEO, and with operations staff who generate the carrier and client data behind our numbers.
Responsiblities
Accounts payable and carrier costs
- Process vendor bills and carrier invoices (UPS, FedEx, Canada Post and other carriers), match them to shipment data, and code them to the right entity, client and account.
- Flag carrier billing errors, duplicate charges and adjustments, and support dispute and credit tracking.
- Prepare weekly payment runs for approval.
Accounts receivable and client billing
- Prepare and issue monthly client invoices for storage, fulfillment, shipping and freight from ShipHero and internal billing data.
- Apply payments, follow up on overdue accounts and keep the AR aging current.
Reconciliations and month-end close
- Reconcile bank, credit card, payment processor and intercompany accounts monthly for both entities.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals and prepaid amortization, and support a close within [10] business days.
- Maintain multi-currency (CAD/USD) records and foreign-exchange revaluations.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma or degree in accounting, finance or business, or equivalent experience.
- [2–4] years of full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting experience, including month-end close and reconciliations.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Excel or Google Sheets (lookups, pivot tables).
- Experience with GST/HST and BC PST.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work with large volumes of transaction data.
- Clear written and spoken English for working with clients, carriers and teammates.
Preferred
- CPA designation, or progress toward it.
- Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency (CAD/USD) or US accounting.
- Experience in logistics, 3PL, eCommerce or another high-volume transactional business.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems such as ShipHero, or carrier billing data.
Compensation: $55,000 to $60,000 per year, based on experience. Vacation and statutory entitlements are provided under the BC Employment Standards Act.
Work environment: This is an office-based role. Some peak periods, such as month-end and year-end, may require extra hours.
Equal opportunity and accommodation: ShipTop is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds. If you need an accommodation at any stage of the hiring process, please tell us and we will work with you.
