Original job description

About The Role

Shopify's Technical Program Managers manage large-scale missions and programs to build the best product for our Merchants, enabling entrepreneurship and creating new value for the world. TPMs drive execution, capability and impact across the organization by keeping thousands of people focused, and moving as fast as possible so Shopify can achieve the impact of giants with the speed of a startup. We believe in assessing team fit and leveling throughout our interview process to ensure the best match for both the candidate and our teams.

As a Staff TPM at Shopify, you will own and deliver programs spanning a broad portfolio that may include Trust (Security, Privacy, and IT), merchant-facing Products, and foundational areas like Infrastructure, Data, and Core Platforms. You'll be part of a highly adaptable and diverse team, partnering with engineers, cross-functional experts, and stakeholders to innovate, develop, and ship solutions that keep commerce secure, empower merchants to grow and efficiently manage their businesses, and provide the robust, scalable backbone behind Shopify's exceptional products.

In this role, you'll drive strategic initiatives end-to-end - from protecting Shopify's systems, infrastructure, and data, to launching products that integrate seamlessly into merchant operations, to forging the reliable services and platforms that everything else is built on. You'll think holistically about system integration, performance, resilience, reliability, and redundancy, while ensuring initiatives meet the highest standards of quality and deliver tangible value to merchants.

Resourcefulness and curiosity are key - you'll need to quickly gather context across diverse domains, infrastructure, tooling, and safeguards to accelerate execution. By managing programs that cut across Trust, Product, and Platform missions, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming Shopify into a complete merchant platform and driving a powerful cycle of growth.

You might be great in this role if you have:

10+ years experience experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
A proven track record and passion for managing complex, technical programs in domains such as Security, Infrastructure, Cloud Systems, Data, Product, etc.
Managed and delivered large-scale, x-org programs with a founders mindset
A commitment to understanding technical architecture and feasibility of tech solutions to drive software development deliverables and solutions
Successfully driven complex negotiations with diverse stakeholders to manage interdependent priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences at all levels and crafts, to provide visibility and transparency into program progress
Demonstrated leadership skills to influence stakeholders and gain buy-in and, bring teams together to drive progress forward
Are self-driven; You're proactive and able to navigate through ambiguity and complexity within a fast paced environment to bring clarity to stakeholders
Experience managing with highly effective program management tools and cadences

Still interested? Great! To match you with your ideal role, we’ll take the time to get to know you and the skills you bring to the table. If you’re applying to a specific role, we’ll respond within 10 business days. If we don’t have an immediate opening, don’t worry! We’ll give you an update and keep you in mind for future roles. Just do us a favor and try not to submit more than one or two applications. Only submit additional applications if you really match the criteria for multiple roles.

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity - and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
Bring critical thought and opinion
Put AI agents and tools to work on the tasks they're built for, and focus on the work only humans can do
Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
Work digital-first for your daily work

We may use AI-enabled tools to screen, select, and assess applications. All AI outputs are reviewed and validated by our recruitment team.
