Change the future with us.
We are looking for dedicated and talented people who solve ever-changing challenges, customer needs, and questions from colleagues with clever concepts and creativity. We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.
About the role:
Are you passionate about bringing advanced runtime software into industrial automation platforms? Do you enjoy working at the boundary between application software, edge systems, diagnostics, deterministic exchange, and operator-facing industrial systems?
We are seeking an Industrial Edge Integration Engineer to help integrate the Physical AI Runtime with SIMATIC AX and Siemens Industrial Edge. SIMATIC AX is Siemens' software-defined automation environment. Siemens Industrial Edge is an open edge computing platform for deploying, running and centrally managing containerized apps (analytics, AI, connectivity) on the shop floor, bridging OT and IT with low-latency local processing and fleet-wide software management. This engineer will work on AX SDK integration, Industrial Edge app deployment, runtime lifecycle behavior, HMI error propagation, DiagnosticsSDK, TracingSDK, DDS, HDX, and deployment profiles that make AI-assisted robotics workflows supportable in industrial environments.
What you will do:
- Build runtime integration components that connect Physical AI services to SIMATIC AX and Industrial Edge environments.
- Implement lifecycle behavior for startup, shutdown, runlevels, health states, recovery, deployment, and upgrade paths.
- Integrate diagnostics, tracing, deterministic exchange, and HMI-visible status for runtime components.
- Translate runtime errors, warnings, escalations, and operator handover events into platform-native signals.
- Define and document interface contracts between the runtime, edge services, HMI, automation systems, and observability tools.
- Support integration tests, reference-cell bring-up, field troubleshooting, and release-readiness validation.
- Work with platform architecture, DevOps, QA, Edge Runtime, and UX engineers to keep runtime behavior consistent and supportable.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years strong professional experience with SIMATIC AX, TIA Portal, Industrial Edge, PLC-adjacent runtime environments, industrial software platforms, or comparable automation systems.
- Strong programming skills in C++, C#, TypeScript, Python, or another language used for platform, runtime, or integration software.
- Experience integrating application services with platform lifecycle concepts such as startup, shutdown, runlevels, health states, restart behavior, deployment, upgrade, and rollback.
- Understanding of industrial diagnostics, tracing, logging, observability, and support workflows.
- Experience with messaging, IPC, deterministic data exchange, time-sensitive data flows, or distributed system integration.
- Ability to connect runtime state and error conditions to HMI-visible signals, operator handover paths, diagnostics, and service workflows.
- Experience collaborating with architecture, DevOps, robotics, QA, and UX teams on integration contracts and platform constraints.
- Practical troubleshooting skills across runtime software, industrial networks, containers, edge devices, and automation environments.
What sets you apart:
- Direct experience with Siemens Industrial Edge, SIMATIC AX, TIA Portal, DiagnosticsSDK, TracingSDK, HDX, DDS, PROFINET, OPC UA, or related Siemens automation technologies.
- Experience integrating robotics, vision, AI inference, or machine-control workloads into industrial runtime environments.
- Knowledge of deployment to constrained edge compute environments, including offline operation, resource budgets, update procedures, and field support.
- Experience designing deterministic and observable exchange paths between runtime components and platform services.
- Familiarity with HMI integration, operator alerts, machine state, alarm handling, and service diagnostics.
- Ability to make integration behavior explicit through contracts, traces, tests, and operational runbooks.
- Strong judgment about how to keep AI-assisted runtime components separate from certified machine safety functions.
Work environment:
- This role includes software development, platform integration, and hands-on validation with industrial edge and automation environments.
- Hybrid work is supported, with on-site presence expected for platform bring-up, HMI integration, runtime diagnostics, and reference-cell validation
Why join us?
- Impact: Build the founding team and platform capability for a strategic Physical AI initiative in Canada.
- Innovation: Work at the intersection of robotics, AI, industrial software, workflow orchestration, and platform engineering.
- Leadership: Shape the direction, culture, and operating model of a new strategic engineering organization.
- Collaboration: Partner with leading global research, product, and engineering teams.
- Growth: Help define how Physical AI platform capabilities scale from data foundations to runtime-enabled industrial applications.
Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $ 90,000 CAD - $ 140,000 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus of 10% of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
