You will work on mission critical work assisting our clients from multiple resource sectors such as forestry, government agencies, and other stakeholders. In this role, you will work with forest inventory data, spatial models, and planning tools to help inform practical, defensible decisions for land and resource management. Your work will contribute directly to forest management strategies, regulatory processes, and long-term sustainability outcomes. This role will have both office and field work components. Depending on your experience, this role blends hands-on technical work with project management responsibilities. You will collaborate with a team of forestry professionals, GIS specialists, and project managers to analyze scenarios, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver clear, actionable insights to clients.

This work spans a variety of projects across Canada’s forest sector.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply your problem-solving skills to a variety of forestry and environmental challenges
  • Support the development of forest management plans and regulatory submissions through technical analysis and documentation
  • Apply problem solving skills to assess wildlife habitat, wildfire risk, and other landscape-level considerations
  • Contribute to projects related to biomass, carbon, and emerging forest-based opportunities
  • Participate in field data collection and quality control programs to support forest management projects
  • Prepare clear, well-structured outputs that communicate key assumptions, risks, and trade-offs
  • Work closely with internal teams and clients to ensure analysis aligns with project objectives and operational realities
  • Support continuous improvement of modeling approaches, workflows, and documentation standards

What You Bring:

  • Strong analytical capability with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and defensibility of results
  • Practical understanding of forest management planning and timber supply concepts
  • Ability to interpret complex data and translate it into clear, usable insights
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines across multiple projects
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data analysis
  • Experience with statistical or analytical tools (e.g., Python, R, or similar) is an asset
  • Familiarity with forest inventory data structures and planning frameworks in one or more Canadian jurisdictions
  • Drone pilot license basic or advanced is considered an asset
  • Experience with forest management tools such as Remsoft, Woodstock, Patchworks, FVS, SLYM, MGM, etc. is considered an asset
  • Exposure to project planning or coordination is considered an asset

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Planning, Agriculture, or a related field
  • Graduate degree is an asset, but not required
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an RPF or RPFT in Alberta.

Working Conditions:

  • Field work may involve travel to project sites across Alberta / Western Canada, including remote locations, for periods of up to 10 days at a time
  • Fieldwork can involve working in variable weather, walking over uneven terrain, and carrying equipment
  • Reasonable physical fitness is required for the field portions of the role
  • A valid Class 5 driver's licence and a satisfactory driver's abstract are required
  • A company vehicle will be provided for field travel
  • Overnight stays in field or camp accommodations may be required during active field seasons

Why Work at Silvacom:

  • Be part of a team that values practical solutions, technical quality, and collaboration
  • Contribute to meaningful work across the forest sector, government, and environmental initiatives
