Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

This department is a unit within the Vice-President Research & Innovation portfolio. The purpose of the Ethics process is to protect the research participants. In doing so, this team works closely with faculty researchers and with the Research Ethics Board (REB).
About The Role

You will provide comprehensive and timely assistance to the research community in navigating the research ethics review and oversight process(es). You support the work of the REB by working with researchers to ensure applications are complete, consistent and compliant with required standards prior to the study being reviewed by the Board. You will also assist with the study review process – helping the Board to determine if the study meets regulatory requirements.

This role would be well suited to experienced research project managers, and/or clinical trials/data assistants/coordinator/monitors. The ideal candidate for this role is a person with well-developed relationship building and administrative skills, preferably in clinical or behavioral research ethics. They will be able to bring efficient, effective, pragmatic, and innovative solutions to support participants, the SFU REB, and the research community.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, with three years related experience in a highly regulated administrative environment such as research ethics or clinical/behavioral research in an academic or clinical setting with emphasis on regulations, legislation, and guidelines, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge of research administration and ethics regulatory frameworks.
Organize large volumes of complex and diverse information and work and manage priorities.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. You will be working directly with many of SFU’s top researchers on their most critical projects.
Ability to work in a highly demanding environment where issues are diverse, changeable, and complex.

What We Offer

At SFU, our goal is to ensure our people are valued and supported by promoting a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development, as well as a safe and respectful workplace. We offer temporary employees who belong in the Administrative & Professional Staff Association (APSA):

An additional 7% pay in lieu of benefits & 8% vacation pay
Employer paid extended health & dental plans
Professional development funds (minimum contract period of 1 year)
Hybrid-work program for eligible positions

Additional Information

The assignment end date is 1 year from start date.

Please include your cover letter and resume in one attachment.

SFU is an equity employer and strongly encourages applications from all qualified individuals including women, Indigenous Peoples, visible minorities, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, persons with disabilities, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the university.

We are committed to facilitating accessibility within our application and interview processes. If you require any assistance or accommodations, please contact pei_reception@sfu.ca.
