About The Role
The Director, Facilities and Building Operations, provides senior operational and strategic leadership for the planning, stewardship, renewal, and effective use of SFU Libraries' multi-campus physical environments, facilities, building systems, operations and equipment, ensuring that library buildings, spaces, and infrastructure support the Library's academic mission, public service mandate, and evolving institutional priorities. The role provides integrated oversight of Library building operations, shipping and receiving, Library space planning, safety, accessibility, risk management, building emergency preparedness and locally managed technology and equipment as they relate to the functionality of library spaces and services. The role provides leadership and direction for continuous improvement and operational excellence and ensures multi-campus strategic stewardship of the Library's specialized technology ecosystem, including audiovisual systems, self-service equipment, library material circulation, storage and retrieval technologies, security systems, makerspace technologies, and related infrastructure. The role serves as the Library's contact with SFU Facilities Services on capital renewal projects and planning.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Urban or Facilities Planning, Building Science, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Administration, or a related discipline and five years of relevant leadership experience in facilities management, building operations, space planning, or infrastructure stewardship within a large, complex organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A strong understanding of how physical spaces, operations, equipment, and technology shape user experience, service delivery, and institutional identity.
- Demonstrated project management experience and ability to lead operational teams, manage budgets, and deliver complex projects in a service-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Significant experience managing technology-enabled facilities, audiovisual systems, specialized operational equipment, makerspaces, media production environments, or comparable portfolios.

Additional Information
This is a new leadership position for the entire SFU Library system with a multi-campus focus. While the primary work location is at the Burnaby campus, this position supports Library operations on all three campuses and the incumbent will travel between campuses regularly.
