Academic Management Systems, part of IT Services at SFU, partners with Faculties and Faculty Relations to deliver systems that support academic operations. We are agile, cross-functional teams of analysts, developers, and QA specialists who thrive on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Our focus is building user-centered IT solutions that simplify processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the SFU experience for faculty and staff.
SFU is embarking on a three-year digital transformation through the Integrated Faculty Management System (IFMS) program. This initiative will modernize and unify workflows across faculty and administrative domains, supporting long-term improvements in academic administration and advancing the university’s mission.
About the Role
The Business Systems Analyst supports service operations for SFU’s faculty systems, including ETRACS. The role leads the analysis and resolution of production issues, assesses service requests, identifies root causes, coordinates system fixes and enhancements, and develops operational and knowledge base documentation and user training. Working closely with users and cross-functional technical teams, the BSA helps maintain reliable services, improve operational processes and deliver timely, user-focused solutions within a collaborative Agile environment.
The ideal candidate brings investigative curiosity and experience supporting complex enterprise systems, with strong skills in business analysis, troubleshooting, workflow analysis, documentation, training and stakeholder engagement. They can investigate issues, identify root causes and propose practical solutions within an established, highly integrated system. This role requires end-to-end systems thinking across service requests, incident resolution, enhancements, testing and release readiness. Success depends on sound judgment, clear communication and the ability to balance immediate operational needs with sustainable improvements that consider existing functionality and dependencies. A strong understanding of software development processes, integrated systems and service operations is essential.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Systems or a related discipline, with four years of related experience, including experience in business analysis, working with enterprise-level applications in a large, complex, technically focused environment, or an equivalent combination of experience, certification and education.
- In-depth understanding of policies governing academic and human relations, collective agreements, academic planning, reporting, budget management, research and teaching in order to lead academic systems development and data services.
- Excellent business analysis skills, with a proven ability to successfully conduct business and systems process analysis and design at a complex level to ensure solutions meet long-term business strategies
- Strong project management skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple tasks
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, teamwork, and mentorship skills
- Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills
