Original job description

Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

The Hydrogen Hub is a new University Core Facility that is intended to advance BC’s leadership position in the global hydrogen value chain. Along with a consortium of industry and government partners, we aim to dramatically lower the production costs of clean hydrogen. The Hydrogen Hub will provide the groundwork for joint collaborations between industry and academia to de-risk innovative hydrogen technologies and support pilots in policy and regulation.

About the Role

The Director, Hydrogen Hub Operations is responsible for the Hydrogen Hub Core Facility financial and administrative management, facilities operations, business development, marketing, and research design. The Director manages the capital, operating, and revenue budgets; provides advice and guidance to leadership on matters related to the planning and development of the Hub's facility; and oversees the daily operation, use, and maintenance of the Institute's state-of-the-art facility with analytical and hydrogen production equipment (e.g., AEM electrolyzers, electrolyzer test equipment, living lab equipment). The incumbent provides leadership in the prioritization, development, and implementation of strategies to promote and expand the use of the Hub; works in partnership with the Office of the Vice-President, Research, Scientific Director, and SFU Innovates to identify potential new industrial research partners to provide external funding; and assists the Scientific Director with the preparation and submission of research grant proposals. The Director, Hydrogen Hub Operations promotes the Hub by networking with researchers and organizing open houses, information sessions, and tours.
