Original job description

Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

Serving students, staff, faculty and our wider community across all three campuses, the VPFA (Vice President Finance and Administration) leads and develops foundational support services to help achieve SFU’s academic, research and community engagement missions. We deliver SFU’s day-to-day operational and administrative needs through the work of Campus Services; Facilities Services; Finance; IT Services; and Safety & Risk Services. We collaboratively, respectfully and inclusively engage and work with our community partners to meet the needs of and make a difference in the everyday lives of the people we serve, in addition to creating a vibrant work culture of learning and growth for our over 600 staff.

Campus Services is composed of seven departments that provide core services to students, faculty, staff and external community. Through Meeting, Event & Conference Services; Food; Bookstore & Spirit Shop; Parking & Sustainable Mobility Services; Document Solutions; Residence and Housing; SFU Childcare Society; and a variety of experience programs, Campus Services strives to create vibrant, engaging and welcoming spaces across all three SFU campuses.

About the Role

This position is responsible for the coordination and smooth operation of all internal and external events that take place at the various campuses. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Meeting, Event & Conference Services (MECS), this position is required to tailor specific events to appropriate locations within the facility, making sure that the most efficient use of space and resources is used. The Event Planner is also required to liaise with security, technical and other service areas when booking space. Because of the diverse nature of the clients that use the various campuses, this position needs to be sensitive to both their needs and those of our academic community who regularly schedule events on this campus. This position monitors and troubleshoots all problems that might occur in the successful running of an event. The Event Planner plays a central role in greeting clients on-site and providing basic orientation to the campus, and liaises with Facilities Services, IT Services, catering, security and other campus service providers and monitors and troubleshoots all operational problems that occur in the successful running of an event.
