Company Overview

Sirius Instrumentation and Controls Inc. designs and manufactures innovative chemical injection systems, smart controls, and remote power solutions for the oil and gas industry. Our technologies help eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, improve injection accuracy, and reduce manpower and chemical costs – two of our customers' largest expenses. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Sirius is a registered APEGA corporation supported by a highly skilled technical team.

Position Summary

The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the assembly, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control components on Sirius chemical injection systems, tank systems, and remote power units. This role works in the shop and, when required, in the field to ensure equipment is built, tested, and commissioned to Sirius quality and safety standards before it reaches the customer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, wire, and calibrate field instrumentation including pressure transmitters, level switches, flow meters, thermocouples, and control valves
  • Assemble and test panel wiring, junction boxes, and instrument loops per drawings and control narratives
  • Perform loop checks, functional testing, and pressure/leak testing on chemical injection skids and tank systems prior to shipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and electrical faults on units in the shop and, when required, at customer well sites
  • Support commissioning and start-up of skid-mounted equipment, working alongside the Automation and Field Service teams
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and instrument specification sheets
  • Maintain accurate calibration records, test results, and quality documentation for each unit
  • Identify and flag design or build issues to Engineering and Quality for resolution
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with Sirius's safety standards
  • Mentor apprentices and support their development toward journeyman certification

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal) as an Instrumentation and Control Technician
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in instrumentation, ideally in oil and gas, wellsite equipment, or industrial manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of chemical injection, tank systems, or skid-mounted equipment considered a strong asset
  • Proficient in reading P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and loop drawings
  • Experience with hazardous location wiring practices and CSA electrical code requirements
  • Familiarity with PLC I/O wiring and basic troubleshooting (programming not required)
  • Strong hand-tool and test-equipment skills (multimeters, calibrators, hydrostatic test equipment)
  • Valid driver's licence; willingness to travel to customer sites, including remote field locations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Working Conditions

  • Primary work performed in the Edmonton manufacturing facility, with periodic travel to customer well sites across Western Canada and the United States
  • Shop environment involves standing, lifting, and working with hand and power tools
  • Field visits may involve exposure to outdoor and remote-site conditions; appropriate PPE and safety training provided
  • Occasional overtime or after-hours support may be required to meet shipping or commissioning deadlines

Why Sirius
