Job Title: Geology Field Ore Control Technician

Reporting directly to the Senior Geologist, the Geology Field Ore Control Technician supports the geology department's ore control function by executing field-based grade boundary delineation, guiding material handling at the dig face, and managing dilution and material tracking to ensure ore and waste are accurately separated and accounted for throughout the mining process.

This is a temporary contract position with an anticipated duration of 4–8 months.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Ore Control Markout and Grade Boundary Delineation

  • Perform ore control flagging and markout at the dig face, translating ore block boundaries and grade control plans into clear, accurate physical markings in the field.
  • Identify and mark ore and waste boundaries to support accurate excavation and ensure material is directed appropriately during mining operations.

Dig Face Support and Material Separation

  • Provide guidance to shovel operators at ore boundaries to support accurate material extraction and separation of ore from waste.
  • Work closely with Operations to communicate grade boundaries, clarify material classifications, and minimize the risk of ore loss or waste dilution during excavation.

Dilution Control and Material Tracking

  • Monitor material extraction in the field and support dilution control practices to maintain ore quality and minimize the mixing of ore and waste.
  • Track and document material and load movements, ensuring ore and waste are directed to the correct destinations and accurately accounted for throughout the mining process.

Stockpile Sampling and Verification

  • Conduct stockpile verification sampling to confirm material classification and grade accuracy.
  • Record and communicate sampling results and discrepancies to support accurate material tracking and follow-up by the geology and operations teams.

Additional Responsibilities

  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in geology, mining technology, or a related field; equivalent field experience will be considered
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and the ability to operate light vehicles on site roads

Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience in grade control, ore control, or mine geology field work preferred
  • Familiarity with GPS/handheld survey equipment (e.g., Trimble)
  • Working knowledge of block model outputs and grade control principles
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and rugged terrain
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with Operations, shovel operators, and mine planning
  • Valid driver's license; ability to operate light vehicles on site roads
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods on uneven, rugged terrain, work at elevation, and carry field equipment such as sampling gear, flagging supplies, and GPS units
  • Ability to work safely near heavy mobile equipment and outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold and wet environments, at a remote, mountainous mine site

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is CA$35 - CA$40. Individual compensation will be determined based on factors including relevant education, training, experience, skills, qualifications, and job responsibilities.
