Job Title: Mobile Maintenance Reliability Engineer
Reporting directly to the Manager, Mobile Maintenance the Mobile Maintenance Reliability Engineer is responsible for establishing and leading a structured mobile fleet reliability process that improves safety, equipment availability, maintainability, and life-cycle cost across Eskay Creek mining and support equipment. The role will build the standards, workflows, data quality, reporting, and accountability necessary to move from reactive failure response to proactive, risk-based reliability management. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, Planning, Supply Chain, OEMs, and contractors, the successful candidate will turn equipment performance information into prioritized corrective actions and sustainable improvements.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Reliability Process Development and Governance
-
Build and own the mobile equipment reliability management process, including defined inputs, decision criteria, meeting cadence, action registers, ownership, escalation, verification, and management reporting.
-
Establish the fleet reliability baseline and equipment criticality/risk ranking; define focus assets and the thresholds that trigger investigation or intervention.
-
Develop standardized workflows for failure notification, defect coding, investigation, corrective action assignment, closeout, and effectiveness reviews.
-
Implement a recurring reliability review with Maintenance, Operations, Planning, and key contractors to review fleet performance, chronic losses, open actions, and emerging risks.
-
Develop a prioritized, value-based reliability improvement pipeline with documented opportunities, owners, due dates, benefits, and verified results.
-
Create practical reliability procedures, templates, and training so supervisors, planners, technicians, and operators consistently support the process.
CMMS, Work Management and Data Integrity
-
Support PRONTO implementation and ongoing governance of mobile equipment asset hierarchies, component structures, bills of materials, job plans, PM strategies, and equipment history.
-
Establish minimum work-order data standards, including accurate failure codes, problem/cause/remedy details, labour, parts, downtime, meter readings, and component changeout records.
-
Partner with Planning and Supervisors to improve preventive maintenance effectiveness, defect-to-work-order conversion, backlog quality, and planned corrective work.
-
Validate data completeness and consistency before publishing performance trends, and drive corrective action where recording practices are insufficient.
-
Use maintenance history, component life, equipment hours, utilization, and costs to support repair-versus-replace and maintenance strategy decisions.
Fleet Performance and Condition Monitoring
-
Define and maintain a consistent mobile fleet scorecard, including mechanical availability, physical utilization, MTBF, MTTR, planned versus unplanned work, PM compliance, repeat failures, component life, and maintenance cost per operating hour.
-
Establish condition monitoring strategies appropriate to fleet criticality, including fluid sampling, inspections, onboard equipment health data, wear trends, and OEM recommendations.
-
Identify deteriorating trends early and convert findings into actionable maintenance plans before functional failures occur.
-
Partner with Operations on operator care, early defect reporting, equipment operating practices, and avoidable equipment damage.
-
Coordinate with Supply Chain and OEMs to identify critical spares and components, lead-time risks, repair/exchange options, and warranty recovery opportunities.
Failure Analysis and Continuous Improvement
-
Lead structured root cause analysis (RCA) for high-consequence failures, repeat breakdowns, and significant production losses; apply proportionate methods to smaller events.
-
Perform bad-actor analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and reliability improvement studies to identify recurring failure mechanisms, prioritize corrective actions, and improve equipment performance.
Additional Responsibilities
-
All other duties as reasonably assigned
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
-
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), is considered an asset.

Experience developing and implementing mobile equipment reliability management processes.
-
Knowledge of maintenance planning, preventive maintenance strategies, work management and CMMS systems.
-
Experience with equipment performance monitoring, reliability metrics and maintenance cost analysis.
-
Experience conducting root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and bad-actor analysis.
-
Familiarity with asset hierarchies, bills of materials, job plans, equipment history and maintenance data integrity.
-
Ability to analyze equipment performance data, identify recurring failures and develop corrective actions.
-
Experience collaborating with Maintenance, Operations, Planning, Supply Chain and equipment OEMs.
