Job Description: Safety & Quality Controller

About Us

Sky Group of Companies is a group of construction and restoration businesses established in 2005 in the Greater Toronto Area. For nearly two decades, we have been committed to meeting and exceeding client expectations by delivering exceptional quality, reliable service, and practical construction solutions.

Our team is dedicated to excellence, workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement. Through our commitment to integrity, collaboration, accountability, and hard work, we strive to deliver successful projects while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.

As our businesses continue to grow, we are looking for individuals who take initiative, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and are committed to maintaining and improving our operational standards.

About the Role

Sky Contracting Inc. is seeking a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented Safety & Quality Controller to oversee the day-to-day implementation, monitoring, and administration of the company's health and safety and quality management systems.

Working closely with the Safety & Quality Manager, the Safety & Quality Controller will take primary responsibility for coordinating safety and quality compliance activities, maintaining documentation, conducting inspections and audits, monitoring corrective actions, and ensuring that company policies, regulatory requirements, and project-specific standards are consistently followed.

This is a hands-on, operational role that requires independent judgment, strong follow-through, and the ability to work with management, project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and field personnel. The successful candidate will manage most routine safety and quality functions independently, escalating significant risks, incidents, non-compliances, and matters requiring management direction to the Safety & Quality Manager.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Health & Safety Compliance
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain company health and safety policies, procedures, programs, and safe work practices.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards, unsafe work practices, and deficiencies, and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Maintain and update site-specific safety documentation, hazard assessments, safe work procedures, inspection records, and other required health and safety documents.
  • Coordinate the collection, review, and maintenance of employee and subcontractor safety documentation, including training records, certifications, acknowledgements, and proof of competency.
  • Monitor compliance with personal protective equipment requirements, fall protection procedures, equipment safety requirements, and other applicable controls.
  • Support the investigation and documentation of workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns, including tracking corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor outstanding safety deficiencies and follow up with the responsible personnel to ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist with the coordination of safety orientations, toolbox talks, training sessions, and other safety communications.
  • Identify recurring safety issues and recommend improvements to prevent incidents and strengthen compliance.
  1. Quality Assurance & Quality Control
  • Implement and monitor company quality control procedures to ensure construction and restoration work meets project specifications, applicable building codes, contractual requirements, and company standards.
  • Conduct and coordinate site quality inspections, document deficiencies, and follow up with project teams to ensure timely correction.
  • Review project documentation, inspection records, checklists, and supporting evidence to verify compliance with established quality requirements.
  • Maintain quality records, inspection reports, deficiency logs, non-conformance reports, and corrective action registers.
  • Monitor the completion of corrective and preventive actions arising from inspections, audits, client feedback, and identified deficiencies.
  • Identify recurring quality issues, investigate contributing factors, and recommend process improvements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to address quality concerns and support consistent workmanship.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of quality management procedures, project-specific quality plans, and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development of practical measures to improve project consistency, reduce rework, and maintain client satisfaction.
  1. Compliance Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date health and safety and quality records for the company and its projects.
  • Monitor the expiry and renewal of training certificates, worker qualifications, equipment inspections, and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Coordinate the collection and verification of required documentation from employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance registers, inspection schedules, training matrices, incident logs, corrective action trackers, and other relevant records.
  • Prepare documentation packages and supporting records for client requests, project audits, internal reviews, and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure records are properly filed, accessible to authorized personnel, and maintained in accordance with company procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Identify missing, incomplete, or outdated documentation and follow up with the responsible parties to resolve deficiencies.
  1. Audits, Inspections & Corrective Actions
  • Plan, conduct, and document routine workplace inspections and internal safety and quality audits.
  • Assist with external audits, client compliance reviews, certification requirements, and other assessments relevant to the company's operations.
  • Track audit findings, deficiencies, non-conformances, and outstanding corrective actions through to completion.
  • Verify that corrective actions have been implemented effectively and maintain supporting evidence.
  • Monitor compliance trends and prepare reports identifying recurring issues, areas of concern, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of company safety and quality programs, including applicable COR requirements and other relevant safety or quality management systems.
  1. Training & Employee Support
  • Coordinate employee and subcontractor onboarding requirements relating to health and safety, site access, training, and project-specific compliance.
  • Maintain training records and monitor upcoming renewals or outstanding training requirements.
  • Assist in delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, policy communications, and other training activities as required.
  • Communicate safety and quality expectations clearly to employees, subcontractors, and site personnel.
  • Respond to routine questions regarding safety procedures, documentation requirements, and quality standards.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, hazard awareness, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  1. Reporting & Coordination
  • Work closely with the Safety & Quality Manager to maintain oversight of the company's safety and quality performance.
  • Independently manage routine safety and quality administration, inspections, documentation, follow-ups, and compliance monitoring.

  • Prepare periodic reports, dashboards, and summaries of safety and quality performance, training compliance, corrective actions, and outstanding requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to ensure safety and quality requirements are incorporated into daily operations.
  • Escalate significant safety hazards, serious incidents, repeated non-compliance, and unresolved quality concerns promptly.
  • Recommend practical improvements to company procedures, documentation systems, inspection processes, and compliance practices.
