Original job description
Skygauge Robotics builds drones that make physical contact with structures to perform industrial inspections, including ultrasonic thickness measurements. Our technology has dual uses across civilian and government applications, including defense.
We’re hiring a Grants and Government Projects Lead to own our government funding work and develop additional partnerships through our existing defense relationships. Your focus will be Canada.
We have funding opportunities already underway and established defense contacts with room to grow. You’ll take ownership of that work, identify new opportunities, and keep applications, commitments, and relationships moving forward. This role combines project management with relationship development and requires strong organization, creative thinking, and consistent follow-through.
You’ll work closely with our Chief Product Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, with the CEO involved at key meetings and decisions.
What you’ll own
Government funding
- Regularly identify and assess relevant Canadian government grants and other non-dilutive funding opportunities.
- Recommend which opportunities to pursue, with a clear plan for the application, required inputs, and deadlines.
- Prepare and submit applications, coordinating technical and financial information with colleagues.
- Build relationships and meet with program representatives to understand requirements, strengthen applications, and secure funding.
- Take ownership of funding opportunities and grants already underway.
- Once funding is secured, manage reporting, reimbursement claims, supporting records, and audit requirements through grant completion.
- Keep deadlines, deliverables, and responsibilities clear so the company meets its funding commitments.
Defense partnerships
- Get up to speed on our existing defense relationships and the opportunities being discussed.
- Work with those contacts to identify additional partnership opportunities for our technology.
- Develop relationships further, pursue relevant introductions, and maintain consistent contact with stakeholders.
- Work with the Chief Product Officer and Chief Commercial Officer on business development plans, then own the outreach, follow-up, and day-to-day execution.
- Keep clear records of progress, decisions, and next steps, and bring the executive team into key meetings with the preparation and context they need.
The executive team will lead sales strategy and key commercial discussions. You’ll own the relationship development and follow-through that help those opportunities progress.
What you’ll bring
- At least three years of experience performing project management functions, including responsibility for timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination.
- Strong organization and attention to detail across several opportunities with different requirements and deadlines.
- Clear writing skills and the ability to turn technical and business information into a well-supported application or briefing.
- Confidence initiating conversations, building relationships, and following up consistently.
- Creative problem-solving and the judgment to propose a practical next step when the path is unclear.
Experience we’d value
- Canadian government funding applications, grant administration, reimbursement claims, or reporting.
- Sales, business development, or partnership development experience.
- Experience improving workflows with AI or automation, such as opportunity research, deadline tracking, or coordinating application inputs.
What success looks like in your first three months
- Existing funding commitments are organized, with clear deadlines, reporting schedules, and supporting records.
- Promising Canadian funding opportunities are prioritized, with practical application plans.
- Active defense relationships have clear next steps for developing additional partnerships.
- The executive team has an accurate view of progress and knows where its involvement is needed.
