Job Description:

Join SLC Management's Toronto-based team as a Director/Senior Director, FP&A in a highly visible role that extends well beyond traditional financial planning and analysis. In addition to leading management reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning, you will support investor relations, financial modeling, business analytics, and corporate strategy across a global alternatives platform. The role offers regular interaction with SLC Management's executive team, business leaders, and Sun Life partners.
This position is ideal for a commercially minded finance leader who combines analytical rigor with sound business judgment and enjoys translating complex data into actionable insights. You will thrive in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment where priorities evolve quickly, continuous learning is expected, and there may be opportunities to lead and develop finance talent.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Management reporting - Lead the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reporting packages, including AUM and fee-earning AUM roll-forwards, fee-related earnings, management and performance fee revenue, expenses, margin, and headcount, with clear commentary on drivers, trends, and variances to plan
Planning and forecasting - Own key components of the annual budget, multi-year business plan, and rolling forecast process across business units and corporate functions; partner with business leaders to build, challenge, and validate assumptions
Business and strategic planning - Support the enterprise strategic planning cycle, including long-range financial projections, growth ambition setting, capital allocation analysis, and evaluation of new products, strategies, and investment platforms
Financial modeling - Build and maintain robust, auditable models covering fundraising and deployment pacing, fee revenue build-ups, seed and co-investment capital, expense structures, product-level and client-level profitability, and scenario and sensitivity analysis
Investor relations support - Prepare analysis, talking points, and supporting materials for Sun Life quarterly earnings disclosure, investor day content, analyst questions, and peer benchmarking against publicly traded alternative asset managers
Executive and Board materials - Develop clear, well-structured presentations and written analysis for the SLC Management executive team, Sun Life senior leadership, and Board audiences
Strategy and analytics - Conduct competitive, market, and peer analysis on AUM growth, fee rates, margins, fund performance, and industry trends; deliver insight-driven recommendations rather than data alone
Business partnership - Act as a trusted finance partner to business unit leaders, investment teams, distribution, and corporate functions, supporting ad hoc analysis, business cases, and decision support
Process improvement - Drive continuous improvement in planning tools, reporting templates, data quality, and dashboards to increase speed, accuracy, and insight
Generative AI adoption - Apply generative AI and emerging analytical tools to accelerate and strengthen FP&A work - from research and peer benchmarking to drafting, model documentation, data summarization, and reporting automation - and help establish practical standards for how the team uses these tools responsibly and with appropriate review
Cross-functional collaboration - Work closely with Controllership, Tax, Capital & Treasury, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and Sun Life corporate Finance to ensure consistency and integrity of financial information
Leadership - Where applicable, manage, coach, and develop finance talent, setting clear standards for analytical quality and attention to detail

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Generative AI fluency and curiosity – hands-on experience applying generative AI to finance or analytical work, or clear aptitude and enthusiasm to adopt it rigorously; understands both the leverage these tools create and the need to validate outputs
Analytical rigour – structured, data-driven problem solver who can move from raw data to a defensible recommendation
Executive communication – distills complexity into clear, concise narratives and presentations for senior leadership, Board, and investor audiences

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics, Business, or a related field
CFA, MBA, or CPA designation is an asset
Approximately 8–12 years of progressive experience in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance, strategy or management consulting, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development
Experience in asset management, alternative investments, or financial services is strongly preferred; familiarity with real estate, private credit, infrastructure, or fixed income strategies is a distinct advantage
Demonstrated career progression, with a track record of increasing responsibility, strong performance, and measurable impact
Proven experience preparing analysis and materials for senior executive, Board, or investor audiences
Experience partnering across multiple business units and corporate functions in a matrixed organization
Prior people leadership or mentorship experience is preferred
Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required - advanced modeling in Excel and executive-quality presentation building in PowerPoint; experience with enterprise planning and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Anaplan, Hyperion, OneStream, Tableau) is an asset
Demonstrated use of generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot or comparable platforms) to improve analytical output, research, or productivity is preferred; genuine curiosity to apply them more rigorously is essential
