Original job description

You know how to help employees understand what’s happening, why it matters and how they can be part of it. You bring a strategic perspective and enjoy doing the work, from advising leaders to writing the next employee newsletter.

Smart, Savvy + Associates is pleased to partner with Technical Safety BC in their search for a Business Partner, Internal Communications and Engagement.

Reporting to the Leader, Internal Communications and Engagement, you’ll develop and deliver communications that connect employees with the organization’s priorities and with each other. You’ll work closely with leaders and teams across the organization, translating complex or sensitive information into clear, thoughtful communications.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced communications professional who takes initiative. You’ll help shape internal and executive communications strategy, lead employee engagement activities and manage the channels employees rely on every day.

What You’ll Do

Build clear, connected internal communications

  • Develop and implement communications plans that support organizational priorities, change initiatives and employee engagement.
  • Write and edit executive messages, presentations, newsletters, intranet content and other employee communications.
  • Turn complex information into accessible content that helps employees understand what it means for their work.
  • Manage and improve internal channels, including the intranet and Teams, to keep information useful and easy to find.

Partner with leaders and teams

  • Advise executives, leaders and colleagues on communications approaches, messaging and timing.
  • Work across People & Culture, IT, Operations, Legal, Finance and other teams to coordinate communications.
  • Support sensitive issues and crisis communications with sound judgment, discretion and care.
  • Help leaders create opportunities for two-way communication and respond thoughtfully to employee feedback.

Strengthen employee engagement and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) initiatives.

  • Plan and deliver town halls, leadership meetings, “Ask Me Anything” sessions and other internal events.
  • Support employee engagement surveys and turn findings into practical recommendations.
  • Work with Employee Resource Groups and support communications that advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Use channel data, content audits and employee feedback to evaluate what’s working and improve communications.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, with demonstrated experience planning and delivering internal communications.
  • A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across executive communications, employee updates, presentations and digital content.
  • Experience advising leaders and building trusted relationships across an organization.
  • The ability to develop a strategy and carry it through to delivery, including publishing content, producing newsletters and coordinating events.
  • Experience supporting change communications and handling sensitive information with confidentiality and tact.
  • Confidence interpreting engagement data and employee feedback to guide recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • A curious, collaborative approach. You ask thoughtful questions, bring ideas forward and take ownership of your work.
  • Experience creating inclusive, accessible communications for employees with different needs and perspectives.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting issues management or crisis communications.
  • Familiarity with Confluence, Teams, ContactMonkey, Canva or Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience creating visual content and making basic video edits.
