Purpose of the position

As the Manager of the General Ledger, and International you will be responsible to supervise, organize, update and ensure the completion of the monthly financial reporting of all SMART's legal entities and branches.

Responsibilities and accountabilities

Review and post monthly general ledger journal entries prepared by direct reports.

Review GL reconciliations by direct reports to ensure appropriate detail and support

Manage lease modules in all entities to ensure all leases have been recorded or derecognized as appropriate.

Review of the international subsidiaries’ month end accounting; including reviewing monthly international entities reporting packages, reviewing various reconciliations and preparing associated supporting working papers.

Manage the coordination of local compilation and audit engagements with local international advisors including preparation of requested working papers, reconciliations, and supporting documents as well as reconciling and recording resulting adjustments.

Monitors, coaches and develops performance of direct reports, ensures adherence to policies and procedures, evaluates and provides feedback on performance, addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Participate in the hiring, training and development of General Ledger and International accounting staff.

Ensuring the appropriate internal controls are in place, documented and being maintained.

Leading and coordinating the standardization of internal record keeping and processes in accordance with local international requirements and SMART internal policies and procedures.

Assist SMART’s Tax team with the following tasks with respect to SMART’s International entities:

- Review indirect tax returns (VAT / GST) and monitor filing deadlines accordingly.

- Preparation and compilation of annual accounts to be used in SMART’s International income tax filings and provide responses to accounting-related queries from SMART’s International tax advisors and monitor filing deadlines accordingly.

- Reconciling and recording statutory audit adjustments in SMART’s local books, ensuring that any adjustments are reviewed and approved by SMART Tax

- Providing accounting details for other tax-related disclosures (such as Country-by-Country Reporting) as requested by SMART Tax.

- Assisting SMART Tax with data retention initiatives, including the maintenance of financial accounts and international tax filings according to the criteria established by SMART Tax.

Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Supervision provided and received

Responsible for guiding, scheduling and supervising other members of the General Ledger and International Finance teams.
Supervision for this role will be provided by your manager.
Supervision will be a combination of regularly scheduled meetings and informal and ad hoc communications on urgent issues or as required

Working conditions

Hybrid-based role (3 days in the office), fast-paced work environment
Typical office hours are from 0800-1700 M-F
Timelines for reporting are tight, may require working on reports off normal business hours
This role requires a background check

Education and work experience

A CPA designation with Big4 audit experience
At least 10 years of post-designation experience
Minimum 5 years leadership experience
Advances knowledge of USGAAP/IFRS
Prior experience with in a complex multijurisdictional organization
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong commitment to ensuring the deadlines are maintained and achieved
Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills
