Original job description

Department: Engineering

About the Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Structural Engineer to take technical ownership of structural carport engineering projects on behalf of our client based on Mississauga, Ontario.

This role is responsible for structural calculations, connection design, design reviews, and engineering support throughout the project lifecycle from initial design and customer engagement through fabrication, installation, and construction close-out. You will serve as technical lead, working closely with drafters, designers, customers, engineers of record (EORs), installation teams, and cross-functional departments. You will play a critical role in ensuring that our structural solutions are safe, practical, constructible, and tailored to the requirements of each project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare structural packages for review and final sign-off by the Structural Engineering Manager.
  • Review drafters' and designers' work for accuracy and constructability before it goes out.
  • Work directly with customers and their engineers of record to understand site constraints
  • Own the RFI process during construction for projects
  • Be the technical escalation point for install crews on projects

What You Bring:

  • Professional Engineer (PE/P.Eng.) license in the structural discipline, or actively pursuing professional licensure.
  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience, including direct, hands-on experience with steel building or structural steel erection.
  • Demonstrated experience performing structural calculations for real-world, built projects.
  • Experience with structural steel design, connections, and practical construction considerations.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to own a technical workstream from initial design through construction and project close-out.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with engineers of record (EORs), responding to structural review comments, and managing construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittals, and field changes.
  • The ability to balance independent technical ownership with close collaboration and shared engineering decision-making.
  • A practical, solutions-oriented mindset and a strong understanding of how engineering decisions translate into fabrication and field installation.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience with solar carports, solar canopies, ground-mount racking systems, or similar steel structures.
  • Familiarity with structural design codes and standards, including ASCE 7, IBC, and regional equivalents such as NBC and OBC.
  • Experience designing for wind, snow, and seismic loading conditions.
  • Experience coordinating with geotechnical engineers and foundation contractors on non-standard sites, including landfills and sites with variable soil conditions.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication processes, erection methods, and construction sequencing.

If you are a hands-on structural engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, working directly with customers, and seeing your engineering solutions come to life in the field, please reach out to the below by forwarding your updated resume:
