What you’ll do :-
- Plan and run environmental site assessments (Phase I and II ESAs), including sampling programs, data interpretation, and reporting to CSA Z768 and Z769 standards
- Design and oversee remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, including risk assessment and risk-based closure approaches under provincial and federal frameworks
- Support environmental impact assessments and permitting for infrastructure, energy, mining, and development projects under federal (IAAC) and provincial processes
- Design and evaluate water and wastewater treatment systems, stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control
- Model and assess air emissions, noise, groundwater flow, and contaminant transport using tools such as AERMOD, MODFLOW, GoldSim, ArcGIS, and QGIS
- Prepare greenhouse gas inventories, emissions reporting, and decarbonization studies, including work related to carbon pricing and clean fuel requirements
- Support climate risk and adaptation assessments for infrastructure and communities
- Manage field programs: drilling and test pit oversight, monitoring well installation, sampling, and field QA/QC, with a strong safety focus
- Evaluate waste management, landfill, and reclamation and closure plans, including mine and pit reclamation where applicable
- Work with regulators (Environment and Climate Change Canada, provincial ministries, municipalities) and prepare submissions and compliance reports
- Engage respectfully with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, and incorporate traditional knowledge and consultation requirements into project work
- Use data tools (Python, Excel, Power BI, GIS) and responsibly applied AI-assisted analysis to interpret monitoring data and speed up reporting
- Write clear technical reports, cost estimates, and proposals for clients and regulators
- Mentor and review the work of newer engineers and technologists
Find your level :-
- Level - Typical experience - What you’ll own
- Environmental Engineer I (EIT) - 0-2 years : Field sampling, data analysis, report drafting, and design support, learning under a licensed mentor with a structured plan toward your P.Eng.
- Environmental Engineer II - 2-5 years : Managing assessments and small to mid-sized projects, leading field programs, supporting design and permitting, mentoring newer engineers, completing P.Eng. requirements
- Senior Environmental Engineer (P.Eng.) - 5+ years : Leading projects and client relationships, serving as technical authority, signing off on designs and reports where required, managing budgets and teams, developing staff
Promotion criteria are written down at every level, with regular career conversations. Many of our engineers have moved into project management, principal and discipline lead roles, and regulatory or corporate environmental leadership.
What you bring
Must have :-
- Solid foundation in environmental engineering: hydrology and hydrogeology, water and wastewater treatment, soil and groundwater contamination, and air quality
- Understanding of environmental regulation and a strong safety mindset for field work
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working with data
- Clear technical writing and communication with clients, regulators, and communities
- Willingness to do field work in all weather, including travel to remote sites
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or a closely related engineering field from a program accredited by Engineers Canada (CEAB), or equivalent academic qualification recognized by your provincial regulator. We care about sound judgment and careful work.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada (citizens, permanent residents, and valid work permit holders)
Nice to have (not required) :-
- Registered as an EIT or P.Eng. with a provincial regulator (APEGA, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, PEO, OIQ, APEGS, or similar). If you’re an internationally trained engineer working toward licensure, we’ll support the process
- Co-op or internship experience with a consulting firm, regulator, municipality, or industrial site
- Experience with ESAs, remediation, or contaminated sites regulation in your province
- GIS, Python, or modelling experience (MODFLOW, AERMOD, SWMM, HEC-RAS)
- Professional designations such as P.Geo, EP (Environmental Professional), or CESA (Canadian Environmental Auditing Association) credentials, or progress toward them
- Safety and field training: H2S Alive, WHMIS, Standard First Aid, CSTS, Ground Disturbance, or similar (we’ll provide what you need)
- Experience with Indigenous consultation and engagement processes
- Industry background in [consulting, mining, oil and gas, municipal infrastructure, utilities, renewable energy, manufacturing, etc.]
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to field sites
- Fluency in French, an asset for Quebec roles and bilingual teams, noting that OIQ licensure requires French proficiency [if applicable]
