- Manage GST/HST, PST, and QST filings and remittances, and support CRA and provincial tax compliance
- Process and reconcile payroll, source deductions (CPP, EI, income tax), WSIB or WCB premiums, and year-end T4 and T4A reporting with HR and payroll teams
- Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and cash management, and chase down variances before they become problems
- Account for fixed assets, leases, deferred revenue, prepaids, and inventory, and support revenue recognition and capital cost allowance (CCA) schedules
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting, and explain the story behind the numbers to non-accountants
- Maintain internal controls, and support audits, reviews, and compliance with lenders and funding agencies
- Support multi-currency work (CAD and USD) and intercompany transactions, with attention to foreign exchange gains and losses
- Work with accounting software and ERPs (QuickBooks, Sage 50, Sage Intacct, Xero, NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) and report in Excel or Power BI
- Support grants, SR&ED claims, and government funding documentation where applicable
- Use Excel macros, Power Query, or Python to automate repetitive tasks, and use AI-assisted tools carefully to speed up reconciliations and analysis, with your own judgment and controls on every number
- Keep documentation clear and audit-ready, and mentor junior staff as you grow
- At senior levels, lead the close, review others’ work, improve processes, and partner with the Controller
