What you’ll do
- Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers
- Design and improve relational database schemas, indexing strategies, and data models (normalized and dimensional)
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, dbt, Airflow, Informatica, or similar tools
- Work across platforms such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Azure SQL
- Tune slow queries using execution plans, indexing, and partitioning, and make them measurably faster
- Develop data marts, warehouses, and reporting layers that analysts and BI tools can trust
- Build reports and dashboards with Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or Looker, or support the teams who do
- Maintain data quality, validation, and reconciliation so the numbers always tie out
- Support migrations, upgrades, and cloud moves of databases and data platforms
- Manage security, access controls, backups, and documentation, and support audits and privacy requirements (PIPEDA, SOX, and others)
- Troubleshoot data issues, find the root cause, and fix the process behind them
- Work with analysts, application developers, and business stakeholders to turn questions into reliable data solutions
Find your level
- Level Typical experience What you’ll own
- SQL Developer I - 0-2 years : Queries, reports, and well-scoped database changes, learning our data model with a dedicated mentor and code review
- SQL Developer II - 2-5 years : Owning pipelines and data models end to end, tuning performance, leading migrations, mentoring newer developers
- Senior SQL Developer - 5+ years : Architecting data solutions, setting database standards, leading major initiatives, advising teams on design and performance
- Promotion criteria are written down at every level, with regular career conversations. Many of our senior developers have moved into data engineering, data architecture, analytics engineering, and database leadership.
