Original job description

Code Hunter LLP is a Calgary litigation boutique acting for public companies and sophisticated corporate clients across Western Canada. Its files are complex, contested and high-value, and the counsel on the other side is typically from national and leading regional firms. The firm is looking for an associate called in 2022, 2023 or 2024 who wants to work closely with senior litigators on files of that caliber.

The firm's history: Code Hunter was founded in 2001 with 25 years as a litigation practice in Calgary. The firm has a strong track record of developing high-caliber lawyers who have gone on to take seats at the highest levels of the Canadian courts, including Justice Sheilah Martin of the Supreme Court of Canada, who was appointed to the bench from Code Hunter.

The practice: Code Hunter practices almost exclusively litigation and dispute resolution, in trial and appellate courts, before regulators and in arbitration. Its core areas include: commercial and corporate litigation – complex contract, shareholder, intellectual property and other commercial disputes; energy litigation – upstream conventional oil and gas disputes for public and mid-sized producers; construction litigation – disputes arising from major projects for sophisticated corporate clients in Alberta and BC.

How you will work: directly alongside the partners running the file, from pleadings through to trial; on files where going deep on the law and the record is the standard, and the client expects a quality product; with responsibility that grows as fast as you show you can take it.

What the firm offers: autonomy over your billable hour targets; a team with more partners than associates, so mentorship happens on the files rather than in a program; 25 years at the center of Calgary litigation.

Who you are: a 2022, 2023 or 2024 Alberta call with litigation experience at a national or leading regional firm; strong research and drafting skills; drawn to complex, high-stakes disputes; collegial, with sound judgment and a sense of humor.

This is an exclusive search.
