SMS Equipment is looking for a Supervisor, Mining Services to lead the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of an assigned mining services work area. This role oversees tradespeople, apprentices, and labourers who maintain, repair, and rebuild heavy mining and construction equipment while supporting workforce planning, technical troubleshooting, employee development, safety, quality, and customer service.
Work Location: Fort McMurray, AB.
Salary: $155,000 to $165,000 per annum.
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site, working from the office or customer site each day.
Schedule: 14 days on and 14 days off. Company housing is available. Candidates are responsible for their own transportation.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and coordinate daily maintenance, repair, and rebuild activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Supervise and support tradespeople, apprentices, and labourers, assigning work and monitoring productivity throughout the shift.
- Ensure employees have the required training, certifications, tools, and resources to perform their work safely and effectively.
- Promote a strong safety culture through inspections, hazard identification, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and compliance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor job progress, workforce utilization, and operational performance, making adjustments as needed to meet commitments.
- Provide coaching, technical guidance, performance feedback, and employee development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including timecards, inspection records, warranty requirements, reports, and safety documentation.
- Communicate effectively with employees, customers, and leadership regarding job status, equipment issues, operational priorities, and service concerns.
- Support customer relationships by providing updates, resolving issues, and ensuring a high level of service.
- Assist with major maintenance projects, equipment overhauls, shovel work, and other mining services activities as required.
What You Bring:
The successful candidate brings a relevant trade certification with 4+ years of experience as a qualified tradesperson, along with at least 3 years of supervisory experience coordinating trades in a mining equipment maintenance environment. They have thorough knowledge of heavy mining equipment maintenance and repair and a demonstrated ability to lead safe, efficient operations.
Other requirements include:
- Experience supervising mining equipment maintenance teams in the Fort McMurray region.
- Experience leading teams of tradespeople, apprentices, and labourers.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting practices for heavy mining and construction equipment.
- Experience supporting major maintenance projects, shovel projects, and equipment overhauls.
- A relevant trade, mechanical, electrical, millwright, or engineering background.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements, and equipment inspection practices.
- Ability to conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and support incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Strong customer service, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work, allocate resources, and make sound day-to-day operational decisions.
- Basic computer skills for documentation, reporting, timecards, and operational communication.
- Dealership experience is considered an asset.
